The CAP score reflects the degree of fat build up in the liver and only reads up to a score of 400 so you've obviously got a very fatty liver and this needs urgent attention as soon as possible. Healthy diet and exercise, shed any excess weight you may be carrying, if you partake of alcohol then stop and also identify if you have other risk factors for fatty liver disease.
The kPa figure related to fibrosity and at 10.9 isn't yet cirrhosis so it is reversible but you need to know and address the cause.
Do heed the red flag you've been given and make those changes and you can get better from this.
The British Liver Trust main website has great lifestyle information, dietary advice and more.
I’m not overweight at all. I admit i have been taking quite abit of saturated fats for the past 2 years. I’m now starting exercise everyday for 30min to an hour. Also cutting out carbohydrate and eating only healthy fats.
Have they established a cause of why your liver is fatty? Has it been labelled Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease?
The BLT has a page all about this condition which details other possible contributory factors in NAFLD. britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...
When my t-total hubby was first diagnosed with cirrhosis they investigated possible NAFLD with consultant saying that even though he was built like a racing snake it was possible to have fatty liver - in his case though it turned out to be an auto immune liver disease that had done the damage and he had no fatty change.
You still require carbohydrates or your body will feel starved and will actually hang on to the fat in your liver. The BLT has a fairly new downloadable leaflet on treating NAFLD with healthy diet and exercise at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/do...
Keep working on the fitness and better diet, it will only help matters to improve.
I do have type 2 diabetes. So the problem with carbohydrates is that despite it being low GI it still spikes me considerably. I think that contributed to my high liver fat content.
I’ll prob have to speak to my endocrinologist and dietician again. My liver dr suggested i go on intermittent fasting and keto diet. But I’m worried about losing weight as I’m already on the lower side of BMI. I’m trying to build up muscle mass for now.
Diabetes is sadly a known contributor to NAFLD so there's probably your answer, go with the diet plan recommended by your doctor or better still do try to see a dietician to make sure you are doing all you can to look after your liver and body generally.
i’m just completely shock that within 2 years of diabetes diagnosis my liver became so bad. 😭😭😭 i hope my mre confirms that it is only stage 3 and haven turn into cirrhosis. Praying so hard.

I'm in the same boat, all the specialists said to me was that at my stage there is no reversal of this disease. Do you suffer from ascites? I do, and they took out 18 liters during my last visit to have my parathesis. I'm at a stage where all I can do is take diuretics. I don't qualify for a transplant due to previous quadruple bypass surgery. I'm scared, as well as I have two young sons and 5 grandchildren.
i am actually asymptomatic at this point in time. I went for a check after consistent ALT elevation. Intially doctors all assured me it was due to fatty liver only. Who knows i ended up being told i have fibrosis. Went for MRE today. Waiting to see the Dr for result on Wed.
