Is it normal to feel pain around your rib cage when you lay down. I had a fibro scan months ago and the reading was 9.9 so fibrosis was evident.
I’ve had an ultrasound scan on my abdomen a few weeks ago after being diagnosed with Polycythemia. I’m curious does anyone else on here have the two conditions running alongside each other?
I have a fatty liver and possibly NASH. Not sure about the fibrosis yet because I’m at the start of all of this. However, I have constant pain under my right ribs and it’s worse at night when I go to bed. I drink a couple cups of hot green tea with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, lemon, and turmeric in it. Also, if it’s really bad I try the heating pad for awhile. Seems to help a little.
I used to drink 5 large cans of Stella - that helped. Yes it helped me to score an own goal and I got the penalty I adsolutely deserved - the need for a TP. So PLEASE don’t copy my extremely naive example - I know you won’t!

Hey there and welcome to the forum. There is only one member I know of that has both polcythemia and liver disease on this forum. Do you know how to search for a member on here? He goes by the member name BillWeston
If your not sure how to look up a member I can explain it to you.😊

I went onto another post and found where he had posted a comment , I then clicked on his icon which took me to his profile. I left a message but I haven’t had a response. I hope he is okay 🙂
I also had RUQ pain persistent for 4 moths til I did ultrasound and found that I had fatty liver.
I literally lost all the extra weight and the pain has subsided but my rib is swolllen. Now I only feel the pain when I stretch all the way back. Previously when I use to sit for may be 25 min, I used to get the pain. As per my understanding fatty liver should not cause any pain unless the liver is inflamed which means that it should show in your LFT.
I do preach people or I learned myself that DIET and exercise are very important. Green tea after every meal is great. When you wake up in the morning on empty stomach, make sure to drink a glass of warm water with lemon and honey.
All the best !. I’ve been there with RUQ pain and was dealing since August till they diagnosed in October with fatty liver vi ultrasound and now the pain has subsided. Diet and exercise for 2 months, you should feel better way much better
Hi I read your post and thought oh my gosh someone else gets the rib pain, it bleeping awful when lying down and trying to get up. It is so bad even when I need the loo I can't move for two hours or so on waking and sometimes can't even call out. I haven't been told i've got PV like you but blood test results have been all over the place since i started treatment for underactive thyroid and then various painkillers and infusions over the last 15 years. my gp is currently booking me in for a fibroscan so I don't know my fibro score yet.
So, anyway I empathise with you, you're not alone and I can confirm co existing conditions make the pain more intense and sometimes difficult to clarify which is causing it most. Ask dr/consultant to review your treatment plan perhaps. Many medications have side effects which are just as bad as what they are treating for. Don;t know if this helps but i've been told a lot of the pain is muscular as a side effect of meds.Good luck in getting well.
