As a dentist and cirrhosis patient, I have not seen ulcers caused by cirrhosis. Stress and poor diet can cause ulcers. However, an ulcer that has not healed for a month should have a biopsy. Best wishes.Wayne

Hi Holidaymad22,I have had mouth ulcers pop up and go away then come back again for over a year now.

I was sent to a specialist who told me it was ok and was "just one of those things people get" so I just put up with it. My GP sent me for loads of blood tests and it showed I had problems with my liver. I'm still undergoing tests so I can't say it's to do with cirrhosis or not but it is annoying so they do need to be checked out with a GP. It may be stress related as I do worry a lot about work etc but who knows! Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon as I know how painful they can be when you eat and drink 😞

Hi, hubbie had huge ulcers when he was on steroids for his AIH, we were told it's a side affect from the drugs. They cleared up as soon as he came off them. So could it be medication related?

in reply to Oldbits

hello, I’m being investigated for possible liver or pancreas cancer atm. I already have a chronic AI condition of rheumatoid type with associated other add ons.

May I ask how your husband was diagnosed with AIH and if he has other AI conditions?

This area seems very vague as far as GPs go.

Hi, sorry to hear, hope you get some good news soon. He doesn't have any other AI conditions that we know of. He had a bad dose of pneumonia after he broke some ribs and he took a long time to get over it. They did several blood tests and his white blood cell count was all over the place. His blood count didnt improve so they then did a bone marrow biopsy and a lot more blood tests and a MRI scan. It took a year at least for them to diagnose AIH as he didnt have many symptoms of liver disease. Oddly he is never ill. They kept a close eye on him and about 5 years after his diagnosis he started to get jaundice etc and started steroids and immunosupresants. Now no longer on the steroids. X

I’m not yet diagnosed, tests pending, prescribed omeprazole PPI 40 mgms. Mouth ulcers started within a week of this drug, could be a coincidence but the PIL lists it as a contraindication.

Hi. I developed a boil on my gum which led to infection and root canal needed. I was told cirrhosis can cause infection and poor dental health and in my case caused bleeding gums and this infection. All clear now though due to a healthy diet and bilirubin and toxins leaving my system etc..

Good luck and I hope it’s not cirrhosis related and you will be just fine. I do hear of people getting them a lot even though they haven’t a serious illness.
