Mouth Ulcers

Hi, me again with yet another question. My husband has many very sore mouth ulcers one particular one on his tongue is more like a hole. I have mentioned them and the fact that he has excessive saliva sorry if tmi but when I say excessive it literally pours from his mouth. I did contact the GP and she put a prescription through but when I went to collect they didn’t have it and it has been ordered and should be there tomorrow. Meanwhile she gave him a pain relieving mouth wash that did work but now doesn’t.

Anyone else had this or got any tips that helped relieve the discomfort?

Battled with this problem for a long time. Please, I beg you, don’t ever let hubby have a ‘biopsy on tongue’. Honestly and truthfully, ALL other Pain pales into insignificance next to that!!!!!!

I gargle hot water with salt in it, the water as hot as you can stand it and it works for me. The other thing I used to use was a powder called Alum, works immediately but I have never seen it for sale. Hope he feels better soon

Thanks he tried warm salt water this morning I will suggest he tries it as hot as he can stand. Was the Alum for ulcers or excessive saliva?

Bs1524 Good morning to you, now I thought I was the Queen of the Mouth Ulcer, my mouth was like a planet of small volcanoes, truly I did not eat at all whilst on Chemo and just dampened a cotton wool ball to quench my thirst. Well my hospital gave me Benzydamine mouthwash but didn't have much effect at all, then my pharmacist recommended a lotion called Anbesol it is £5.00 a small bottle but it did give me some relief. I don't know if you should run it by hubby,s Gp just 2 be sure. I hope he will feel better soon, this blummin illness ay! all my best wishes

The GP has prescribed a hydrocortisone but he has to hold the tiny tablet on the ulcer which is virtually impossible to do as there are so many. We are still waiting on the mouthwash. It looks like he is getting an HE not severe just he is a bit off which means he is not sleeping which makes matters worse and yet a few days ago he said he felt a fraud as he felt so well. I know things will be up and down but it is so hard getting him to realise how much he has achieved and this to will pass.

Thanks and take care x

Sorry your hubbies suffering so much with those horrid ulcers and possibly HE which is tough for you too !

I know that fraud feeling because I've mentioned it to both GP and consultant how I felt and was put straight by both who said you do have autoimmune disease isues !'

In the meantime please take care of yourself too ! My prayers are also you hubby that the ulcers take a flying jump soon!

Hi,

If the mouth ulcer on the tongue is not healing then I would suggest to contact the surgery again and possibly send them a photo. It may need to be assessed by a specialist.

Best wishes

Hi, I have already done that and ai understand if there is no improvement in a week then they will look at sending him to a specialist. However in the meantime he is not feeling great so the GP may be sending him to hospital. We need to check in with her tomorrow morning.
