He continues to make slow improvements. Good days then bad days. He has been confused at times but that is improving slowly too. He is able to walk into the kitchen and bathroom using his walker. Eating small meals and generally more conversational.

I saw my GP and he stated that my husband is still classed as a yellow case - meaning they have him down as a death risk in the next few months. For the first time a doc has bluntly given me the facts - he has alcoholic liver disease. He has damaged himself irreversibly. My gp does not think he will recover fully and thinks he is at risk of getting a random infection and going septic.

My question - I see him ‘improving’ - is this to be expected? I get there will be good days and bad … but mentally I am all over the place. I know we are not God and no one has a crystal ball but the unknown is painful - he is now 5 weeks without alcohol and he hasn’t bounced back as he usually does so is this an indication?

Hello. Did doctor tell your husband to take something like lactulose and rifaximin to treat hepatic encephalopathy?

Hello, thank you for sharing,, sounds very similar to my own case regarding liver disease, I was yellow in skin and eyes, initially, after really getting pumped full of medicine and i was diagnosed with decompensated liver disease, my nurse then done I fibro scan and she said in her professional opinion I'm more compensated now, which is hopeful, basically means my liver is getting by but I have a long road too getting to any better, I'm not yellow anymore and I had to transform my diet 100 percent, drastically, lots of water, coffee is good, green tea, and no salt,, watch out for sugars!! This for me had too be straight away, but initially I wasn't given the information for a few months due to my life style, I'm awaiting another CT scan and I had most other ones,, I believe there is hope, personally but maybe just me however I've received amazing support and tips here, I only joined yesterday. You can also call a nurse free on the British liver trust website they are great,, I'd do that, get armed with the facts, Keep going, I always believe there is hope, I had too.
