Update on blood tests

Following on from my last post.

Those of you who read my last post should remember that on the 25th July my alt was 34. Consultant started me on new tablet Mycophenolic acid (Ceptava) And didn’t follow up. I then somehow managed to get blood tests and it showed a rise in the Alt, from 34 to 79 in just a week. 4 days later I had another blood test (yesterday) this time Gp ordered one for me himself. Gave the test around 1pm and got a call from Gp around 7pm. Apartment, the lab called him and shared the results with him. The alt shot up to 444 😳. Highest I’ve ever had. Just to add I have stopped the tablets couple of days ago even though when I spoke to my consultant after the first blood test he said I should carry on with the tablets but when I told him, I am worried andI don’t feel too well either! He said ok you can stop taking the tablets

Should I be worried??

Thank you in advance

Are you still on steroids too? It's the steroids that will bring the inflammation under control. You are obviously one of the occasional folks for whom finding the right immune suppressant is an issue.

Are you under one of the transplant hospitals/specialist centres? Are you dealing with a gastro or a hepatologist? If you are under a gastro you need referral to a hepatologist and preferably at one of the t/p centres as they are the experts on dealing with the immune suppressant side of things. There are other steroids rather than prednisolone (such as budesonide) which are a little less harsh when it comes to side effects.

Best wishes, Katie

Hi Katie, I’m seen at queb by Consultant Hepatologist. This is the 4th tablet which they tried and didn’t work prior to this I was merrily on a 5 mg prednisolone. All bloods test were normal 😟

You are under one of the best AIH centres, hope they find you something better that suits.

Hello,

I certainly hope you have an appointment with your consultant coming up soon to discuss the effect mycophenolate has had and how he plans to resolve the issue. Presumably your GP is going to check your bloods again soon to make sure the levels are coming down since stopping the medication.

Thank you admin, they did however leave me in a vulnerable situation. Hoping that they will pay a bit more attention now. If not then I will have to request a blood test for myself for my peace of mind.
