Morning all, I hope you are managing okay today..I have an appointment in 2 days to go on anticoagulation therapy indefinitely.
Currently I am using Enoxaparin which is okay and seem to be getting used to the needle thing! I just close my eyes!! I have recurrent DVT and had a PE going to my lung a few years back. I need to stay on the right therapy to stop this happening again but I really need advice on side effects and the impact this therapy has on my liver.......Any ideas would be much appreciated. All my best!....Mark

Hi! My husband has been on Warferin for over a year now and had no problems except the odd excessive bruising or nose bleeds. He also has low platelet levels due to his cirrhosis so i was dreading him living on this, but its proved to be terror free so far!
Im probably not answering your question 🤪. But when I was last in hospital, last year. With a bad stomach bleed, due to portal hypertensive gastropothy ...i was told i had atrial fibrillation, and had an ecg done...which revealed a leaking mitral heart valve as well. When i came home my own gp got in touch to my gastro consultant, and suggested an anticoagulant, due to increased risk of stroke or heart attack. Consultant came back to my gp and said with my very increased risk of severe bleeding....not to go ahead with anticoagulants. Obviously you have dvt, which is your concern. Sorry fella, that doesn't really help ya does it....and ive gone on abit😆.hope things go ok fella.
Hey fella...thanks for getting back to me. Shit my man, you have a dodgy ticker too!..I am sorry to hear that and I hope all is alright for you. Nah, you never go on and its great to see you still on here. The severe bleeding risk sounds hideous and pray that never happens to you. I don't know what abriel fibrillation is but I hope that's sorted too. Fella living with cirrhosis is shit but it's taking it each day at a time. I am nearly 6 months sober now but the liver thing does my head in!😁....All my best, Mark
I’ve been on warfarin for 15 years and had no issues but I have a blood clotting disorder that caused my liver issues. I have normal platelets and too high red blood cells although these are dealt with by removal of blood. Personally I have no issues with warfarin other than frequent checking of levels.
Hi, I've had a liver transplant, but I also suffer from atrial fibrillation and angina. I used to be on Warfarin, but with covid I asked if I could switch to Apixiban, as this doesn't involve trips to the hospital/GP to get the INR levels checked. My liver consultants were happy for me to be prescribed this.
Hi TBSW..Thank you for your reply and I am sorry that you went through the transplant procedure..and well done for getting through! Thanks for your advice on Apixiban..do you get any side effects from them? I currently don't get any side effects from the injection and I am considering staying on them for that reason. Hate needles but anything to feel less dodgy I guess.
Hi, no I've not had any side effects from either Warfarin or Apixiban. I would say that the Apixiban is probably easier than the injection as its one tablet twice a day. Good luck
