Fibroscan reads up to 75 kPa but your 18 kPa with a causal factor being NAFLD confirms your cirrhosis diagnosis. You may never have another fibroscan as it adds nothing to your diagnosis or treatment. You have cirrhosis and it's now a case of treating the symptoms it might bring. My hubby who has cirrhosis has never had a fibroscan - his consultant says "we know you have cirrhosis so there is no point".
I have nafld as well and had fibroscan readings showing cirrhosis. The ultrasound scans say fatty but no cirrhosis. I often have nausea and I find very small meals every 2-3 hours helps.
I tend to drink some peppermint tea ( I only dunk the bag or else I think it tastes vile) as well as decaffeinated tea. I know coffee is supposed to be good for the liver but I have never been able to drink it. I always got stomach gripe when I drank it.
I have had to move from milk to soya milk as semi-skimmed started to cause problems. I can't abide skimmed.
The other thing I do if my stomach is off is simplify my meals. I have cut ready meals out and I'm now looking at having to cut out all take-outs as they often leave me feeling rough, even if I only eat a little. Also eat slowly. I'm a devil for eating quickly and being in a hurry. This is something I'm trying to work on.
I personally vary the amounts I eat each day. I usually have a couple of days where I eat a little more and they include a little naughty food. I do this so that my body doesn't get too used boring food and I can still eat a little naughty. I also do it as I'm trying to lose weight and I don't want my body to be used to surviving on the amount I eat and not lose weight. That would be a crime. I only vary a little but it has a feel good factor for me.
Hope it helps. It is a bit boring, but I got fed up of the little office with the porcelain telephone.
Thank you for this, I am off for a Fibroscan this morning, so it is useful information. I had an MRI a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully combined together, my consultant will have all the info he needs.
18kpa is out of 75kpa.you are between F1&2. It's just the early stage of fibrosis, not Cirrhosis.Take precaution Right from now and you will not be in problem in future. Thanks
18 kPa in the case of NAFLD is F4 cirrhosis according to the Fibroscan charts - what each kPa reading refers to differs depending on what is the cause of the liver damage (ie. in alcohol related liver disease 18 would only be F3, with Hep B it would be borderline F3/F4 - in no condition is kPa 18 only F1/F2). Check out the charts which both myself and Phil64 provided links to.
Thanks for chart it made interesting reading and was very helpful.
I have Cryptogenic NAFLD, unfortunately it was discovered far to late and I've got substancial Cirrhosis with a kpa 18 and am F4.
They scan me every 6 months and do blood tests at same time, they told me this is all they can do until my liver decides it's had enough.
The last scan a few weeks ago didn't go well as they couldn't get a clear picture of my Right lobe. I'm waiting for an up to date MRI but the Consultant is abit slow putting request in, so I keep chasing it due to stress and worry of something been found. It hopefully is nothing to fret about but the not knowing is horrible
