Hi I have Stage 4 fibrosis NASH and 2T diabetes. My readings are dropping below 5 regularly and I eat sweets to bring it back up. Tonight my reading was 3.2. Anyone else have the same problem?

What meds are you on for it? I used to take 2 metformin and 1 gliclazide and that brought me down low If I was very active and even the hot weather. I’ve recently stopped the gliclazide and now take 4 metformin and have been better. The gliclazide was always bringing me down low.

I take 4 Metformin daily and I inject Ozempic once weekly. My diabetic nurse said as I am now within the normal range they will cut Metformin in half in a few months. I want to stay on Ozempic as it curbs my appetite and I've lost 3 stones since I've been injecting. I think perhaps I need to see my GP to bring forward the cutting down of Metformin. Thank you for your reply x.

I found the metformin does that and when I took gliclazide I put on weight. Since coming off I’ve lost a stone and a half, so happy with that. I’m currently waiting on a fibroscan as my bloods last few months indicate fibrosis. But hopefully it’s not. I’ve had nafld for 16 years.

I had an ultrasound and then a Fibroscan a few months later which showed the scarring on my liver and kpa reading of 36.6. Not sure of the bloods but the Liver Trust nurse on this forum will be able to help you x.

It was an ELF blood test - enhanced liver fibrosis test. I’ve had nafld for 16 years and my whole lipid profile is treble what is should be, but stable, and I’m ok a statin, fenofibrate and Bp meds, but they decided to do another elf test as not had one for 6 years and it’s increased to a level which suggests I have it, hence waiting on a fibroscan.

Thanks for your reply. I was told in March this year that it was stage 4 Fibrosis after being told I had a fatty liver last October. However, I have looked into this and I think I had probably had it for many years going from NAFLD to NASH to stage 4 Fibrosis. However I am very optimistic about being able to live a good life with thus chronic condition as I have changed my diet, I have given up all alcohol even though I wasn't a big drinker anyway only the occasional night out. So I am determined to keep the good bit of my liver functioning. So this forum has given me hope after reading the various posts. Ayrshirekate is very knowledgeable and with reading contributions from others in the same boat I have shed the dark feelings I had. Take care xx.

Thanks for info. And glad you’re in a better place with it. I was never a big drinker and have not drank for about 30 years. I also have a bowel condition called bile acid malabsorption which is linked with to my liver issue. Fun eh!

I know what you mean. I'm on statins, BP meds, diuretics. After stomach camera they found gallstones, a hiatus hernia, a diverticular and gastritis. Then the liver stuff came after scan. You have to laugh or you'll cry! I'm lunching out on my medical stories that I share with my friends. We have such a laugh about it all but they are sympathetic but that's my coping mechanism. I'm a widow and have been through the most terrible loss of my husband so I'm being strong like he was. So please keep safe and let me know how you get on xx.

Hi I've had similar experiences with diabetes and NASH in past. I hit the gym hard and lost 5 stone within a year ( I didnt change my diet, just exercise) my liver recovered and in Dec 2020 my Liver was normal again. However, a covid virus stiked me a year later and left me with inflammation on liver and lungs. My lungs recovered after 8mths, unfortunately my liver continued to get worse and 10mths later was diagnosed with cirrhosis of liver. Nothing as yet is giving any sign to cause to slow it down but I cannot get my sugars down. They are constantly high and I've become insulin resistant.

NASH is not complicated to recover from. It's mainly diet and exercise but it does make you think how much you really need to look after your health- I totally understand and wish you all the best on your journey. You coped well and are getting through it. Your right: you can only either laugh or cry... a famous coping mechanism when have diabetes! Please let me know how you get on!

I will. And thank you. Life is full of twists and turns and I am trying to deal with each one logically. But now and again a little nugget of doubt creeps in and I start to worry. But I shrug it off as best I can. I have great friends who talk me through things and one asked if I liked liver and onions. Quite innocently ro which I replied with comical responses. So that helped to see the lighter side lol. I will post my journey and thanks again x.
