Low blood pressure and blood sugar levels in Cirrhosis

My friend has been having dizzy spells and feeling sick over the past three weeks ( he now tells me) . His BP is up and down and his sugar levels are 5.1, just in the cusp. He worries me to death, he's now really fit and eats healthy. He's lost 8 stone, and looks a completely different person. Is this to do with cirrhosis do you think? His drs haven't altered his meds since he's lost weight. Maybe he needs a medication review. He's promised me he will demand he sees a Dr or at least speaks to one tmrw.

Sorry if I've waffled on I'm just worried about him.

X

Dizzy spells and feeling sick can be due to all sorts of things, not all liver related do you’ve done the right thing telling him to see a doctor

From one worrier to another - I absolutely understand. I try and do something about the things I can e.g get him to the doctors. Acknowledge and then park the rest. Fingers crossed that what others on here have suggested are the answers. Hang in there.

sorry to here that i got over the liver now i have heart failure and kidney failure

Worth checking his medication with his GP, could be he previously had more sugar in his diet and does not need as high a dosage of diabetes meds (I am presuming he is diabetic since he is checking his blood sugar levels).

Similarly blood pressure medication could cause a drop in blood pressure if you change your diet, exercise outine, body weight etc.

Also not drinking enough fluid, can result in low blood pressure, BP is usually lower in hospitals, lying down etc. used to get low results after my ascites got drained, they insisted on me drinking more water.

Feeling dizzy could be from low blood pressure or low blood sugars, it also could be from getting old, sometimes standing up too quickly or bending down and feeling dizzy happen with age, but all things considered as Readalot says, he should definitely discuss it with his doctor.

Many years ago I moved to a new job and changed GPs, the new GP was clueless about blood sugars, I was recording bloods of 3.5 to 4 and he was telling me that's great...I had to drive with my window open while the weather was freezing cold just to stay awake, suffered at work, low energy, fatigue from being on diet shakes and still the same high dosage of diabetes meds, it was only when I finished my contract and moved back near my old GP, that that GP was horrified with the blood sugar levels, anything below 5.5 is a concern, ideal is 6.6.

When you are eating less and on a healthy diet you might need to adjust your medication, well worth mentioning that to a GP.

Have they checked their Folate levels B9 this causes red blood cells to become too large and unable to carry oxygen to organs. This could be one of many causes. In an emergency call an ambulance, get checked. Not a medical professional myself but this what my mum is suffering from and it is unpleasant,
