Risk of surgery?

Hello, my husband has chronic liver disease and splenomegaly , thrombocytopenia and neutropenia associated with haemachromatosis and NAFLD, he is due to have a hip replacement in the next few weeks and I’m worried about his risk. I wanted some idea of views from people that are in a similar situation before our meeting with the anaesthetist so I can ask the right questions if I need to.

Thanks.

You need the doctors to explain the risks to you and then decide on the risk/ benefits balance with them. Sorry I can’t help more. Good luck

I’d suggest telling the anaesthetist all about your husbands liver and your concerns and ask him to liaise with the liver consultant to find the best anaesthetic for your husband. I’m sure this won’t be the first time they’ve come across this situation. Good luck 😀
