Are red palms always a sign of cirrhosis?

Hi all,

Am a 27 year old and have drunk very heavily for the past four years - albeit with occasional periods off. I recently developed red hot patches on my hands and they can be quite painful when I get stressed and sweat. They are also very stiff. Am very terrified I have cirrhosis and have a doctors appointment booked in. I just want some understanding of whether this symptom could be early stage liver problems, rather than full blown cirrhosis? Any advice is much appreciated.

Odd you should say this, I had a very hot palm the other night - I was moving it about the bed to get a cool spot to cool it down. Didn't think any more of it till now.I have stage 3 NAFLD, fibrosis f3 - the one before cirrhosis and as soon as I found out I changed my eating to lose weight (actually still waiting for most of that to happen) tried to include some exercise (with ME and the exhaustion from the LD I have actually no energy) But worry that it was medication or stress that caused it in the first place and that hasn't gone away.

This is totally no help to you but I thought I'd reply, you know, solidarity and all that, lol.

Take care x

My hubby has palmar erythmia due to cirrhosis BUT his hands don't get hot, sore or stiff.

You are doing the right thing going to see a doctor about your concerns and hopefully you'll get some tests to see what is going on.

The palm issue you describe needn't be anything at all to do with your liver but perhaps you do need to address your relationship with alcohol before it potentially does do you some harm.

Hi to be honest there could be alot of reasons for this to happen it does not necessarily mean liver problems as you say you get them when stressed too it could be anxiety or hives ect I get them myself sometimes mine is due to anxiety and panic attacks calmclinic.com/anxiety/sign... and alcohol and anxiety go hand in hand unfortunately obviously be wise to get bloods done to check lfts but to be honest sounds more like anxiety hope this helpsand all the best always here if ya need a chat

Hi,

It is important that a doctor assesses your hands as there can be many other reasons for those symptoms and not all liver related.

You may want to read our information on Alcohol and liver disease britishlivertrust.org.uk/wp... and call our nurse led helpline for a chat if needed on 0800 652 7330 Mon to Fri 10am to 3pm

Best wishes.

When I saw the liver specialist for my consultation one of the things he did was check my palms for redness as this is a sign of liver problems. Mine were slightly red and he noted that in his subsequent report.
