Been to see my doctor today to be told I may have gallstones after a week of horrendous pain . How long were you all waiting once you had your scan to get back to normal

Hi Kirsty, I saw my GP at the end of February with the same problem and had the same outcome. Referred for scan only to be told by a private company the referral is being reviewed and it could be the end of April before I even hear when/if the scan will happen. Would be interested in learning how long you have to wait for your scan.

I have also had a scan and have gallstones. My doctor said he wouldn’t do anything yet unless the pain starts again. I was told to control my food intake and given specific foods to avoid. Touch wood I have had no repeat pain so I an still wandering around with my stones.

They wouldn't touch my gall bladder. It is too risky to remove with a cirrhotic liver apparently. Only if the cystic duct had been blocked would they have entertained the idea. Otherwise it was a case of 'keep taking the buscopan'.I am sure other hospitals would have had different views if I had decided to go down that route. I decided not to ,and keep reasonably pain free by using Buscopan and avoiding fatty foods.

Should I be eligible for a TP at some stage, they remove it any way.

Good luck and hopefully they propose a solution that is right for you. Chronic pain is awful.

If you are not cirrhotic then I understand you will stand a better chance of removal.

🤞

Hi Kirsty, I saw my Gp back in Oct 2021 with a three week history of vague abdo and Rt sided pain, has an ultrasound which showed a distended gallbladder with sludge and flecks of calculi. The pain eventually resolved and I went on a low fat diet but opted to be referred to our local hospital for surgery. Nearly cancelled my Feb appt as I felt everything had settled, but appt was moved twice by hosp to March, so I kept it, thankfully as then my gallbladder started grumbling again causing the cramps, gas and right sided pain/discomfort.Saw the consultant on Monday who said that it should be removed as there is a risk of infection, jaundice etc, so I am on a long waiting list with op due Sept/Oct.

I have a strong family history of gallstones so I can’t see that it will resolve - can actually feel mild discomfort as I am writing.

Fingers crossed that it does not flare up too much and cause acute pain or further issues!

All the best!

Thankyou all very anxious about it all at the moment hoping it won’t be too long before it’s sorted .

Has anyone had any stones pass

About 2 years ago I had 3 days of chronic pain across my abdomen area. Once the initial chronic pain went away I had very-minor pain most days however this did not impact my sleep and day-to-day life.

I went to the doctors and was referred to have both an ultra-sound scan and endoscopy.

The first ultra-sound scan identified a build up of 'glad bladder sludge' - this is a pre-cursor to the formation of glad stones.

The second ultra-sound scan I had (about 1 year after the first) identified one glad stone within the glad bladder.

I saw 2 separate independent consultants who specialise in this area of the body - both recommended to have my glad bladder removed.

Last week I had my glad bladder removed via key-hole surgery on the NHS - in and out the same day. The first 3 days of recovery at home I was in pain and on paracetamol and ibuprofen. From the fourth day the pain was greatly reduced. Am eating and drinking OK.

A great site for further info...

Hi,quite a good question,I had a scan in July 2020,scan came back course echo, nothing else,I was suffering after with horrendous pain, called my GP and he prescribed me lactulose,July 2021 had a repeat scan again for liver, and the report said gallstones as previously noted, !!

I never got told a year before, when I questioned consultant he said I didn't need to be told,I thought it was just terrible indigestion, only discovered it a year on,but absolutely fine now no issues.

So lucky I suppose,a good friend of mine said the pain is horrendous,it is and was.thank god it's gone.i dint know where or what had happened but it's gone.take care.

Mine was worse before the toilet and after eating,
