This is standard practice and is in line with current guidelines. As abnormal liver tests can be very common, before doing anything further they'll want to see if it has resolved on its own, which is also very common. So, having a 2nd blood test is not really indicative of anything on its own.

Thankyou his first one said borderline do you know what that means

Yes, it just means its only slightly beyond the limits of what they'd expect to see in the population in general.

All labs the docs send their blood samples too will have whats called a "reference range" for what they would expect to see in a normal everyday perfectly healthy person that just walked in off the street. Everyone is different, hence there being a range. Technically no one is "normal", lol.

The ranges are not perfect and some perfectly healthy people will fall outside those parameters. But, usually around 95% of people will fall within those ranges.

If someone is referred to as being "borderline" then it usually indicates their results are just outside those ranges.

A second test is routine, it just means that they want to rule out any pattern of elevation - the first set may have been a blip. Liver enzymes can rise even in response to fighting a simple infection, exercising before the blood tests or any number of other totally none worrying things.

The second test is to check if the rise was a simple one off or something that is creating longer term elevations - as you've said the previous test was only borderline it means just on the edge of normal limits. Doctors usually only get excited when bloods become 3 -4 X the upper limit of normal and that's when they consider something as being really abnormal.

As we said yesterday you need to try and calm yourself down, there is nothing yet to be concerned about, one slightly out of whack bloods which doctor is retesting to see if there is anything of a pattern developing.

You are not helping yourself with this nor your son who as you say is already on tablets for his mental health. You are going to send both of you into a massive cycle of anxiety when the 2nd set of bloods could end up coming back normal.

Wait and see what results say.

I’m 37 and mine have been up and down since high school no real diagnosis yet and I’ve had a decent amount of tests. Slightly elevated might just be his normal

Thankyou so much have you had any other symptoms. Apparently just out of the normal range. So yours are up and and you still have nothing wrong so pleased for you x

Yes mine have been up and down for quite some time and knock on wood nothing has been found…. Sometimes they are normal but other times they fluctuate between 45-77 highest was 100-180, I am on meds and sometimes anti depressants and anti anxiety’s can cause liver enzymes fluctuations

Hi! I had borderline liver bloods once, when I was on medication for back pain. I cut down the painkillers and it went straight back to normal. I can reassure you I have absolutely nothing wrong with me now. I'm sure half the world have the odd blips but never even find out about it!!!Even if he did have liver issues, it would be a case of finding out early enough to address. People on this forum have gone from being at deaths door to fit and healthy again by embracing lifestyle changes etc.

First thing I would say to you is stop googling and ask your doctor some questions, I find it best to write a list of things I want to ask, or I forget some things, good luck.Stay Safe All
