Does exercise increase Alt results

Hi, I’ve been told through abdominal scan and bloods ,I have fatty liver. Since I found out 3 weeks ago, I’ve completely changed my diet and exercise daily.

A repeated blood test showed alt levels have risen in the past week by 30.

Should I be panicking 😓

Yes exercise can

Exercise can increase ALT levels by 30? This would have to be very strenuous exercise and the muscles would still be hurting.

Tippybailey - give it some more time. Fatty liver is reversible, but may take years (with proper diet and exercise).

Not sure about 30, but it can raise ALT. GGT will rise if you have a heart attack too.

I’m exercising 5 days a week and intermittent fasting and no carbs, sugar alcohol

Keep up the good work.

I was diagnosed with mild fatty liver - and it's completely gone after diet changes and exercise over the last 2 years or so.

Excellent well done . I didn’t realise it’s takes that long to reverse. Did you take any supplements? Drink black coffee?

No supplements. I don't drink coffee at all :) Though my green tea intake is probably higher than average (it's hard to find good green tea).

I believe that starting a new diet and exercise regime can cause a sudden but short lived increase in liver results as the body adjusts to the new lifestyle. Doctor needs to monitor it to make sure it is this sort of blip and not some sort of pattern. It's certainly come up on here before that people starting a new regime after fatty liver diagnosis have seen this rise in liver bloods which do eventually settle. Something to keep an eye on but not necessarily to panic about.

Thank you I’m full of nerves

Hi Tippybailey, you have received some really useful advice here - It's very difficult to make a diagnosis on one elevated blood test so I would suggest having it repeated after a period of time to further assess this. Your ALT can rise for many reasons, as others have mentioned. Well done on the lifestyle changes, it's not easy!Trust10

It’s given me a real scare so no other option than change . Every other marker is normal except the ALT AND AST

I think I read you have been dealing with Cancer too? Exercise and medications can cause up tick up in Liver numbers.

Yes last year I had cancer and had a total hysterectomy. No further treatment was needed . Thank god !! So I’m not on any medication for cancer. I’ve changed diet 100% and vigorously exercising . I don’t want to get another big illness
