It's been a long time coming, my doc said he'd refer me in January but after a reminder from me 4 months ago, I saw my consultant 5 weeks ago and now I'm getting my fibroscan
I've stayed up late because it's a 3.10 pm appointment so I'll sleep late and not be up all day hungry.
Thanks to all who have helped me get through the wait and take control of my anxiety.
I'm seeing the liver nurses immediately afterwards so I'm hoping to get some results
Hello Gravy,Just to re-assure you it is a very simple scan, not painful at all.
They should give you the results straight away afterwards, and at least you are not facing a wait like other scans. Make sure you write down a list of questions you want to ask them. Even if you think they are silly ones. They are generally very experienced and more than happy to answer. I briefly wrote down answers, as to help me remember afterwards.
Good luck,
Hi Dave,
Good luck with your appointment and keep us posted
Fibrosis 2. The lovely specialist nurse who spoke to me after the scan said there will be an MDT in the next few weeks and the doctor should okay the treatment for my hep c. She went to great lengths to assure me they are always there should I have any questions.
The treatment should cure the hep c I think it has a 97% success rate and with exercise and healthier eating, avoiding alcohol. I can stay well.
I think the medication is expensive, so I am grateful for the NHS. Hopefully it will get my spleen under control and stop my platelets dropping any further.
I guess my guardian angel has been working overtime as I feel very relieved.
Not bad score considering your hep C. Good luck, nowdays the effectiveness of the treatment for HCV is great which was not so good even few years ago.
I am so glad I found this site. There are some amazing people here, who are not just supportive of everyone but in many cases they are inspiring.
I'm making an exercise routine to follow and I've already started eating new foods, quinoa, brown rice, mainly turkey or chicken (skinless) more fruit and as much as I dislike vegetables, I am hiding them in my meals.
Gravy58 (love your name!), good for you! You can almost bank on getting better and better results if you continue eating healthfully and staying active. What you said about disliking vegetables is a surprisingly common problem. A lot of people say they don't like the taste of this or that veggie. What I've learned from scientists is that all tastes are acquired, except for one. The only taste that we humans are born to crave is the taste for our mother's milk. Everything else is just habit. If you stop eating sugar for about 2 to 3 weeks, your taste buds will in fact crave less sugar. As for fat, if you lower your fat intake to a minimum you stop craving that after one month. So, the truth is that you can shift your tastebuds toward vegetables. You can "unlearn" the cravings for sweets and fats.
Here are some tips. Boil some zucchini, then blend it up. The resulting "mush" can be added to soups and even some spreads and low fat dips. Another tip is to juice up carrots with spinach leaves, add some frozen pineapple chunks, and a half a banana. Delicious and better than commercial juices because it's lower in sugar. Over time, you may find that your taste buds will change and you may even start "craving" your veggies. If you take pictures of your vegetable creations, send them to a buddy and that may help to make it all a fun game to see who can make the best-looking and best-tasting veggie dishes. Your liver will thank you.
I am looking for ways to intake vegetables without tasting them... and those juices and soups are excellent ideas and look like the best way for me to get them inside.
I know what you are saying about acquired taste, but my mother tried every day for 14 years and there are some vegetables that make me nauseas just from the smell, cabbage, cauliflower and especially brussels sprouts. Parsnips must be the most bitter thing I have ever tasted and I will not go into any room with onions or garlic being cut or used. Swede and Turnips again are quite acrid to me, but some vegetables, like carrots, lettuce, cucumber, squash etc are not strong flavours and I could hide them in some home made soup and juices,
I blended a carrot, kale, baby spinach and some pineapple and I have to say .. it was surprisingly delicious. Thanks one small
I think the nurse said 12.25 putting me in fibrosis 02 she said 12.5 would be a flag and 12.8 would need something done.
I guess my diabetes type 2 that led to me losing 50 pounds may have helped get me under that figure. Another 20 pounds weight loss will definitely help plus regular cardio vascular exercise.

I'm trying to get to 185 pounds. Not setting myself silly goals but I think 4 or 5 pounds a month is an achievable goal.
