May I ask please if anyone who has been on tacrolimus (Advagraf) for a while, has suffered from excess uric acid.

Yep, I developed gout as a side affect of the Tacrolimus. Gout is caused by an excess of uric acid.

I now take meds, Allupurinol its called, to keep the levels down and I now get very few flare ups and I'm still on a relatively low dose. Last time I had my levels checked they were back within normal limits.

Have a chat with your doctor about treatments to lower your numbers. They are available and its better to try and stave off the onset of gout as its bloody painful when it flares. I'm sure they'd be happy to prescribe something for this. Raised uric acid levels are a known side effect.

Good luck.

Hi, 4 years post transplant on tacrolimus my uric acid is always high but doctors not worried. I've always presumed its because my kidneys are badly damaged by tacrolimus. Haven't got gout, doesn't seen to cause any problems.Hilary
