Liver cysts advice

Following nearly a year of abdominal pain and digestive symptoms the ultra sound has shown that given the position of the pain that the cause is likely cysts on my liver. The GP was very dismissive and said it was unlikely anything would be done as my eyes weren't yellow and I would have to manage the pain with paracetamol - which don't do anything. He didn't say what type of cysts they were, I haven't had any blood tests to examine my liver function etc.

I want to push for more help but not sure what this would look like. Should I be demanding a blood test for the liver function? Should they be looking at where the cysts are given the pain is getting worst? Should I be asking for a referral and who to - a gastroenterologist or is there a liver specialist?

At the moment if I eat fatty food I run straight to the loo and apparently this can also be caused by liver function but again GP was very dismissive of this. I don't drink very often and my BMI is within a healthy range so not sure what I can do to help ease the pain naturally.

Sorry to hear about your pain. Have they ruled out gall stones? A friend of mine had a gall stone stuck in the bile duct which caused terrible problems. She cut all fat out completely and that gave her some relief until the stone was successfully blasted.

I have recently had a very large liver cyst removed. I had pain, bloating, night sweats and all sorts of other issues but my liver function was fine. I initially thought I had gall stones, having had my gallbladder out several years ago and this was what finally kicked off a scan. They discovered the cyst and I was then referred to a liver specialist. Push for answers. It's exceptional rare for a cyst to be anything more than a cyst but it should be ruled out. Cysts can be aspirated or in my case, drained via keyhole surgery. Don't settle for second best, I cannot believe the difference it has made to my life since having the operation.

At the very least your GP should be arranging Liver Function Tests (LFT's) and a referral to a Gastroenterologist.

I had a cyst on my liver discovered following a scan of my lungs, had liver function tests and an ultrasound of the cyst to be safe, all ordered by my dr. You should push for more investigations. Lesions on the liver are not something to pass off casually.
