Night sweats

Does anyone get bad night sweats? My sister fell off the wagon last weekend and told me she hasn't been sleeping because of the sweats. She is also menopausal, and her doc gave her something for it but she says it's not working. I read somewhere that it could be alcohol related. Is this right?

My husband never had nightsweats. He always felt cold. Sounds more menopausal to me

Hi, I personally get really bad night sweats. Although I feel cold most of the time i sometimes soak the bed sheets. I have end stage liver disease now but the sweats have happened for a while.

Thank you for your reply. My sisters partner says that their sheets get soaking wet and it wakes him up. Although my sister is menopausal, I do feel that alcohol cannot be helping the situation. I fear she is on a slippery slope. Thanks again for your input. Sending love and hugs❤️🤗

Thank you. I hope she can get the help she needs before it's too late. Alcohol addiction is such a hateful thing and probably one of the hardest to overcome. I've recently had to explain to my children that i probably won't be around much longer and i really hope others can learn something from my battle. There is never an answer in the bottom of a bottle.

I am so, so sorry Dasz6. I can't imagine being in your position and having to prepare your kids. That is utterly heartbreaking 💔I lost my older sister to alcohol at the beginning of the first lockdown, but we weren't aware of what was actually happening, but now I know what my younger sister could be facing.No wonder it is called "the demon, drink" There definitely should be more than just the odd "drink aware" advert. It's a silent killer and when found it's often too late. I wish you all the courage and strength in the world, to face what is to come. I'll be thinking of you ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you. She has been referred to the addictions team and they have called her once. They said that if they don't call her back within a week, she has to give them a call. She has learning difficulties, so I don't think she will. Wishing you all the very best ❤️

There can be many different medical reasons for night sweats, if your sister is soaking the bed with sweat it is very important she reports this to the GP so they can run some more blood tests.

She has and they gave her tablets for what they put down to, menopause sweats, but that was before her drinking became apparent. She is awaiting results and a consultation after a fibroscan, so just need to wait the long wait, as everyone has to do now.

I’d have said it was menopause symptoms as have exactly the same problem but only started after hysterectomy and ovary removal. HRT helped - oestrogen gel which is better for liver than tablets. I’m sleeping better without the night sweats which were waking me up

Thanks for your reply. I don't know if she can be given HRT due to other health issues. I was refused it for the same reason. I'll get her to ask though.

I used to get night sweats after a heavy binge. I would be freezing cold but sweating like I was boiling hot. Bedding was wet through. Dreadful.
