Does anyone else with Portal Hypertension suffer with really bad drenching night sweats? If so is there anything you can do about it? It's been waking me up every night for weeks and I just want a full nights sleep. Thanks in advance.
Portal hypertension & drenching night ... - British Liver Trust
Portal hypertension & drenching night sweats.
Hello there!
I had some of this, after transplant. My doctor said that women in my age range complain about terrible night sweats. This, for me went hand in hand with menopause. The other women I was in hospital with had same issues with swears. One is fine..she's older. One developed diabetes and I got the portal hypertension, but a rare form of it. The s cites I had is much better, but that is only because they put in a Tipps Shunt. And I will never recommend the shunt for anyone..ever. The hepatic enchalopothy is far worse than the sweating, ascites, etc. every was.
But, I'm not a doctor.
I also had terrible ascites prior to transplant. And night sweats. Menopause was the response then also. I was 48 and now 49. But the sweating has stopped.
They would take up to 21 liters each drain...till it got down to being drained every ten days.
Good luck!
And speak to your liver doctor about your concerns.
They probably can help..
Cheering you on!

Hi, I have portal hypertension and often wake up drenched, so have to strip the bed cos it's so wry and wash and dry bedclothes. in glad you brought this subject up as I have been wondering if there's a connection for ages, best wishes,
Julie
I wake up with a drenched bed multiple times throughout the night and it has resulted in me now having lots of sheets instead of quilts and I just changed them throughout. Really stressful. I have to take aspirin to thin my blood for my Polycythemia and that increases the night sweats along with the hypertension! I can't win!
I am on multiple tablets, and suffer with cirhossis, neuropathy, have Ascities at mo, and varicies. it isn't the change so, like you have to put up with it. Seeing hepatologist tomorrow (monday) about Ascities so may ask question about sweating. It could be the part of the brain that regulates temperature but if I get chance I'll ask.

Hey Matt, Yes I have the same - also during the day for me too....I was in a meeting earlier and looked like I'd ran a couple of miles!! Hope your feeling better than you were x
Oh gosh I’ve always wondered why I have such awful sweats. I too suffer from portal hypertension and ascites. They are both pretty stable but have been told I have multiple varacies in my bowel too.
I asked my consultant about this and he didn’t really have much of an answer and just said it’s probably because the liver controls body temperature and may be overworked with patients with liver disease.
I always have a sense of relief when I realise it’s not me just going crazy. It also makes things easier to accept if there is a possible explanation to it.
no all I do is wake up every hour sweating bedding needs washing daily, it‘s horrendous love xxx
