Fibroscan result 7.9

Hi all, I am updating anyone following my story. I had a clear ultrasound and bloods ok except MCV96L and phosphate low. I have still been feeling very unwell. Have had other issues like itchiness, sudden increase in facial veins and diagnosed early menopause. Also right rib pain. Ultrasound did show a 17ml gall stone.

I pushed for a fibroscan as G.P was not worried. My result was 7.9kpa. My question is. Could this level of fibrosis be causing my symptoms. How accurate is it for this range of fibrosis? I have not had a drink for 5 weeks and never plan drinking again. I’d like to work on my diet but have been too nauseous to eat much and have lost 8 kg in the last 5 weeks.

I’m seeing the G.P tonight. He won’t have the results yet but I need something to stop this nausea. What happens next? Should I ask for a referral to gastro? I’m anxious by nature.

Why not ask for a GI referral? 5 weeks of nausea is a problem, regardless of the cause. And losing 8kg in 5 weeks could be significant, depending on your starting point. If you started at 108kg, perhaps it's just your cutting out alcohol. If your starting point was 58kg, that might be more concerning-and could be a thousand different causes.

Your medical team will help you out, try not to leap to conclusions. Advocate for yourself, you know your body better than anyone out there. You're obviously worried about liver issues, but for what it's worth, it doesn't sound like you mentioned any specific symptoms (ascites, jaundice, HE, vomiting blood) of end stage liver disease so far in your various posts. If you don't have swelling/oedema, the fibroscan is unlikely to underestimate your liver stiffness. 7.9 is not too bad.

How much/long did you drink? Your body may be readjusting to that as well.

Sorry got it wrong. It was a shear wave elastography hope the result is interpreted the same. In terms of weight. I went from 78kg to 70kg. I know why, I’ve been too nauseous to eat and have had loose bowels too. Fingers crossed things settle.

Would be pleased if I got this result. You might find nausea will disappear when you settle down. Good news! X

Fingers crossed. The guy was new and not that convincing. It was actually an shear wave elastography not fibroscan so I hope I’ve interpreted it properly. I’ll speak to the GP about results in a few days. Fingers crossed. Hope my stomach settles too.

He’d have to know what he was doing. It will take a while but you will eventually settle down again and believe your liver is ok. Xxxxxx

Hello., that score means u have some fibrosis. Buts its fully reversable.. My first score was 8kpa. I didn't take it serious at that point. I continued drinking n smoking. 6 mth later it went up to 12.7. Then I started with all the symptoms u stated. Stop drinking now and smoking is u do. Once you have scarring and continue to put toxins in, it gets into the scarring and causes more damage. Sounds like your at a stage where you can reverse is. Takes time tho. Even a few years. In Feb 2019 my score was 12.7kpa. Then in Dec 2020 my score was 4.6kpa.now in normal range. A good diet n exercise is key too. Best wishes. The symptoms go eventually too. You have to ride them out. That takes time too. Chris

Must be very early if scan didn’t pick it up or LFTS.

Thanks, I hope that’s the case. I have stopped drinking for 5 weeks. I don’t smoke. Trying to eat healthier but the nausea is a little restricting.

Hope you get it sorted. Anxiety definitely causes nausea. I would ask doc for something. X

Did you go privately for fibroscan?

Kettl profile image

No, GP ordered it at my request.

I’ve been told they suspect grade 1 kidney disease, hope it’s not connected to liver. They don’t know what they’re doing, was told my blood test was for kidney and electrolytes, but she’s taken more LFTS again. I had two normal ones last week.

It’s hard. Keep on trying to sort it out. I don’t k ow much about the kidney.

You know your body. Listen carefully to it and write down what you learn each day. That way, you will be able to tell what you were doing when you felt better and what you were doing when you felt worse.

As for your liver, 7.9 as a fibroscan score is just above normal, just barely, depending on the type of liver disease.

If, as someone else said, you are not experiencing higher than normal liver tests numbers (ALAT, ASAT, ALP, bilirubin etc) or other abnormalities (low platelets, out-of-range ions, wierd blood clotting factors, etc), then most doctors will not be concerned about your liver, that is to say, they will not think that you have acute or serious chronic liver disease.

As for the anxiety, no one will able to talk you out of it, you have to see the proof yourself that you are OK. That will take time. Meditation helps me, as does coming to these type of forums where wiser souls can give us guidance.

Go to the British Liver Trust resources page and read to your heart's content. It helps.

Also, keep on walking, drinking good clean water, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and (unless you are vegan like me) fish and a little bit of lean meat such as chicken.

Your body loves feeling cared for. Give it what it loves and it will love you back.

Be patient with yourself. If in fact there is a medical issue, then it took years of bad living to get you there and it will take years of good living to reverse it. Best of luck to you and may God blow a good wind at your back as you go sailing.

My Fibroscan was 12. They did a biopsy and it was an entirely different picture. My ALT and AST's were extremely high, iron was also high. It looked like I had stage 3-4 fatty liver disease and I was very scared. I quit drinking and changed my diet immediately. When the results of the biopsy came in, it showed my liver cells were regenerating and I actually had less <1 fatty liver. The fibroscan didn't read accurately on my body. I would question your results with good bloodwork. It is possible there is another issue at hand. In the meantime, keep up the good work on taking your health seriously. This was a great place for support for me to come to when I was scared and had questions.

Thank you. The ultrasound done with the elastography said mild heterogenous exotexture which has me freaking out. I see the G.P tonight🤞

They didn’t really want to look at results and are leaving it up to the gastroenterologist. Put me on anti anxiety meds. Took half a one and feel very drowzy.

Hope meds will help. They will relax you and release of tension will make you sleepy, wish I had some. You might find pain will go if muscles begin to relax. My tests came back clear except raised cholesterol, terrified because damaged liver can cause it.

Actually been in touch with radiographer who did my US, she brought the scan up and discussed it with me again because I was in a state at the time and just got out as quick as I could. She is adamant I definitely do not have cirrhosis, but my brain says but why this, why that?

If it helps mine was 7.5 , normal bloods, normal ultrasounds (x3) but still have right side pain now and then. I’ve not drunk any alcohol now for 5 months and have to say I am really enjoying the non alcoholic versions more than the alcoholic versions these days.

I don’t miss drink at all and will never go back to drinking. I feel so much better.

Stress and anxiety will cause upset tummy and sickness feeling. I had it too even really worried.

Hopefully I’m on the right path now and my liver will continue to recover. Yours will too
