Fibroscan result

So...... I had a private ultrasound scan in November 2017 which showed ARLD and Cirrhosis. I have been waiting for a year for a Fibroscan which I had yesterday. I was panicking all day knowing it was going to be a bad result especially as my ALT and AST had reversed in ratio and the news I got I absolutely never expected. I had a Fibroscan score of 5.1 I am so so happy. Years and years of worry. I hope many of you will get some news like I have at some point. I am so shocked x

What a great result!!!! I wish my guy would give me another fibroscan to see if my 2.5 years of abstinence have improved mine 😃

Thank you. Do they not do them yearly or anything x

No, they said that once a diagnosis of cirrhosis is confirmed on the first fibroscan, no improvement of the liver is possible, and that cirrhosis is not reversible.

I know cirrhosis can't be reversed but new liver cells can form around the dead cells. So you're score will never decrease? I'm so sorry to hear that. I can't believe that 30 years of heavy drinking and I got that score.i see my consultant in June then he'll put together the Fibroscan score with my blood results. I was in a right state before my scan as I was so sure I had either fibrosis or cirrhosis especially as my ALT and AST had reversed in ratio x

Hi, I've just had my appt with my hep guy, and although the fibroscan m/c was sitting there, he said it was not for me 😥. When I see him in 6 months time, I will ask him why I'm not allowed to have another one.

David

in reply todavianne

There is zero reason why not. It costs them nothing to do it. Even if you wanted to bring in a stuffed elmo doll and ask them to do it on him why not?lol

It takes a minute and again costs them nothing to do it. My hep will do one anytime I ask and frankly why the hell not? Dont take that answer from them David. !

I would really love it if someone did take a stuffed Elmo doll for a fibroscan lol:) Would need a very small probe though.

Dead right Phoenix, I will be more insistent next time😠 Maybe he thought I was a stuffed Elmo !!!!! 🤣

😂 Even if the scar tissue remained the same. Seeing lower Kpa can be good for other reasons. Less pressure in the liver is always a good thing.

So many people here have seen kpa lower in time. We know its possible. 🙂

I'm with you on that one Phoenix, Questions will definitely be asked at my next appt. Just seeing a lower Kpa would give me assurance that my liver nursing is working. 😊

Exactly David. A bit of peace of mind is all we need sometimes. I think its ridiculous that alot of members including yourself have doctors not offering thst peace of mind. Whats the doctor care for? I mean whats the worst that can happen he tells us we have cirrhosis? Lol yea thanks doc we knew that one already.

By the way off topic David. Have you gotten chance to play that guitar lately? 🙂

Yeah I have Phoenix. I had 2 hours on thursday gone, revisiting some 60's stuff 🎸, only stopped when my fingertips got sore 😎

What is your ast/alt ratio right now?

I am facing same circumstances it's about my mom diagnosed with chronic hepatitis c in 2013 and an ultrasound shows only fatty liver later in 2015 another ultrasound shows coarse shrunken liver with enlarged spleen although her lfts and platelets were in normal range and treated with direct anti viral therapy in 2015 and cleared the virus post treatment ultrasound shows slight corase liver and normal splenic index but her platelets were falling down 129000 at that time and I have decided to take 2nd opinion so we had another ultrasound done in 15 days of gap from other technician which shows slight coarse liver with enlarged spleen so I went another ultrasound from another technician and it shows slight coarse liver with normal spleen and I was like wtf? Which one to believe? So later I have done 5 ultrasounds from different places and it shows only mild coarse liver and two years ago we have finally done a fibroscan which shows 4.1 kpa F0= no fibrosis and S0= no steatosis

Although her ast is still higher than alt but still in normal range her ast is 29 while alt is 22

I am still confused want to have biopsy to confirm the diagnose but Doctors are not interested
