Today after a long wait, because my doctor was on holiday (I really think another doctor should contact you when you’re waiting for results of a test) I’ve been told I have Fatty Liver and a cyst which is of no concern but should be followed up.

Any comments anyone? I’m at a bit of a loss at what to think......

Thanks

Hello,

Being told you have a fatty liver is never easy. You should be given an explantion as to how fatty your liver is - mild, moderate, severe. There are extra tests that can be done to help establish whether there is damage to the liver, for example a fibroscan which loooks at how elastic the liver tissue is - the less elastic the more damage. There are also 2 blood tests which will give similar information - enhanced liver fibrosis (ELF) and Fib-4. Your GP should be aware of these tests and also the NICE guidelines on diagnosis and management of fatty liver.

We do have some information on our website, I will give you the links. You might also want to consider calling our nurse led helpline on 0800 652 7330. You would then be able to speak to one of our liver specialist nurses. It is open Mon-Fri (not bank holidays) 10:00 - 15:00
