Which blood test did you have that showed F4 severe fibrosis? If it was a FibroSure test the FibroSure score being higher than the FibroScan score has been reported in around half of cases in a study where participants had both tests done.

Such a wide disparity in scores suggests that at least one of the test results is very wrong. If I had to choose I'd be more inclined to trust the FibroScan because it's been around longer & is tried & tested. A FibroScan measures liver stiffness by sending pulses through the liver. The type of liver problem shouldn't really affect the result because stiffness is stiffness however the presence of inflammation can inflate the score with FibroScans. The blood test would have used a formula or algorithm based on the ratios of different components found in the blood sample. The algorithm may not be reliable for all types of liver problems. For your sake I hope the FibroScan score is accurate. A biopsy may be needed to determine the true state of your liver.

"In our study, more than half of HIV/HCV co-infected patients had advanced fibrosis score at the time of HCV treatment. When FibroSure and FibroScan scores were compared, close to half of co-infected patients had discordant results, the preponderance of which had higher FibroSure scores. As early initiation of HCV treatment is crucial to co-infected patients, further studies will need to evaluate the clinical significance of the discrepancy between different non-invasive fibrosis testing systems in co-infected patients."

Hi Edward, thanks for your reply. The bloodtest called fibro test- actitest panel. My ast and alt seem normal at 24 and 29 and I am completely healthy.

Fibro test-actitest panel is called FibroSure in the US. Given your good AST & ALT scores & that you feel very healthy the FibroScan you had is more likely to be the accurate test. If I'm right then the fibro test-actitest panel otherwise known as FibroSure finding that you had F4 severe fibrosis makes the test downright dangerous with the potential to cause people a lot of needless worry. The test may need to be withdrawn from the market & re-evaluated.

Thanks for the info Edward. I was so worried and couldn't get my head around the issue.

Sound advice from Edward here. But I am curious as to what blood test you are referring to also.
