I drink protein shakes but if I do something with milk I always use oat milk. Its more my choice and my doctor wants me to eat more plant based foods anyway. I can’t see why not, you are getting good protein with the greek yoghurt. My first nutritional diet I was given when I found out I had cirrhosis contained youghurts and milk but that is only my scenario. Hopefully someone else will have some experience with this.

Thank you for your reply I was diagnosed with cirrhosis in September last year and I'm still waiting to see a dietian so I don't quite know what I am allowed I have spoken to my doctor and all they said is to wait until I see the dietian

I had lost a lot of weight and muscle so my diet consisted of 6 meals a day but they were tiny. No salt, no processed foods, no tinned foods, no ham, anything basically that included salt. Also not to eat processed sugar So my diet daily was fresh veg and meat/wholegrain pasta/beans/lentils/salads/homemade dressing minus the salt/wholegrain bread/oats/fruit/yoghurts/ 3 walnut. Eggs max 3 a week. These were very small meals.

My husband was diagnosed just over a year ago and he’s been having protein smoothies with milk and yogurt of all fat levels almost every day. His doctors here in Canada don’t seem to be as restrictive with diet other than limiting salt, no processed foods, limiting red meat and increasing plant based proteins. Essentially what all of us have been doing anyway. That being said, all of his LFTs started returning to normal within just a few months, so perhaps they are not as concerned.

Hubby buys whey protein isolate powder in unflavoured, vanilla or chocolate. We’re in Canada and get it at our Bulk Barn food store. He also buys NOW brand from the local health food shop.

If you have lost a lot of weight you may find when you see a dietitian they will tell you to swap all the low fat and semi skimmed milk to full fat! and lots of protein. I was prescribed high calorie drinks (fortisip) which were milk based and I used to put them into smoothies! Really push to see a dietitian, it was such a help to me👍🙏

Hi 👋

Protein from the yoghurt brilliant. If you look at "FAGE" yogurt it has one of the highest Protein levels amongst the yoghurt brans, also they do one that is zero fat. This was advised by a dietician for myself, as I have to avoid fat because of Gallstones but need Protein for Cirrhosis. Packed with fruit and veg, honey you're on a winner. But it's your choice. I also use Protein Fortisip Compact in porridge, blueberries, cinnamon with Arla Bob milk, again it's fat level is of skimmed milk, but higher protein, (if my memory serves me right) more than any soy, oat or skimmed milk. I am not dismissing anyone else's advice or information, as I previously mentioned this was advice given to myself by my dietician.

I would push for a dietician to help you more.

Take good care 🙂
