Statin affecting my Liver.

Wondering if anyone else has had anything similar.

I started a higher dose of a Statin 2 weeks ago.

I'm now having flank pain on both sides, nausea & the whites of my eyes have turned a pale yellow.

I've already been changed from one Statin to another as the first one was affecting my liver function, Dr called it Medication Induced Hepatitis.

I think the same thing maybe happening again 😕

Got a blood test for liver function in 2 weeks time. Do I carry on taking them until then or call the Dr and tell them my symptoms.?

Don't want to seem like a pain as I'm always at there for something or another 🙄

Contact your doctor as soon as you can, no good going for two weeks with potential liver inflammation.

As Katie has said, you need to see your doctor as soon as you can really. If it looks like the meds may be affecting your liver its not something you want to leave. It may not be, but better to be on the safe side.

Good morning Debra,

As our forum members have suggested, please call your GP with new symptoms, particularly as you have had issues in the past.

Are you taking them for high cholesterol? Have you had issues relating to this in the past, or we’re you prescribed these as precautionary meds?If so, leave them alone. Wait until your bloods are done. Looking after your liver is a lot more important that your cholesterol. Take care.

Hi, thanks for replying.I have been prescribed the Statin - Rosuvastatin , for high cholesterol which the specialist said is not the sort that can be lowered by diet.

I first started on a Statin - Atorvavastatin back in Jan. 2019, all was well on them until I had a liver function test in Jan. 2020 it showed that my Alt was up to

125 u/L, so the Dr told me to come off them and that's when he diagnosed Medical induced hepatitis.

He referred me back to the Consultant about my cholesterol, who then started me on the Rosuvastatin.

Had been on 5mg to start with which wasn't enough to lower my cholesterol so my GP putthem upto 10mg and said to have a liver function test in 4 weeks time.

2 weeks into taking the higher dose I'd when I started to have the symptoms.

I'm calling the Dr today to discuss where to go from here. I believe the same thing is happening again, as I had similar issues like this before.

I'm hoping my GP will do a referral to a Liver specialist as Ive never seen one over all the years.

I was diagnosed with NAFLD back in 2014. I did have an ELF blood test done in July 2020 that was 9.59,they said that was OK and to repeat again in 3 years time.

Do you think I warrent a Liver Consultant appointment ?

And was the 9.59 ELF score really OK to just leave at that for 3 years ?

Well this is very interesting as I have been advised by my consultant 2 start taking statin meds even though my cholesterol levels aren't bad at all I had a q risk done last year and it came back at 20% which ment I had a 1 in 5 chance of having heart problems an stroke etc so he advised me to take them. May speak to my doc as well and c what he thinks certainly lying don't want to damage my new liver

An update on my situation - had a funny turn this afternoon, pain in chest, heart thumping so much I thought it would come out of my chest.Tried to call GP, after another 25 attempts gave up. Called an Ambulance - BP very high 164/118 pulse 125, high temperature of 38. stayed at home thankfully.

Called GP and told her about todays funny turn, yellowing of the eyes and the kidney pain.

She thinks all symptoms are a virus of some sort - maybe Covid or something else.

Just booked a Covid postal test, got to rest, keep hydrated and keep an eye on my temperature and BP.

When we'll enough and if negative of Covid then need to have a Liver function blood test done.
