If a liver function test comes back normal, how would you know if you still had liver issues?

Are there more tests I can ask to be run aside from the liver function blood test if I'm convinced my liver is having issues?

Hi daigol, I have normal bloods even though I have cirrohsis, so I have an ultrasound possibly 4 times a year which shows my cirrohsis, they could also do a biopsy but I have not had one of these, good luck Hayley 😊

Thanks Haley. Is it possible to have cirrhosis undetected without any major symptoms unless an ultrasound is performed?

Hi daigo1, in my case I would say yes, I didn't know at all, I awoke from a coma after having triple organ failure it happened so quick. They ran all sorts of tests including a fibro scan but my ultrasound gave the final diagnosis, everyone is different, to put your mind at ease I'd push for an ultrasound but unless you were unlucky like me I would say your doctor is pretty sure you've not got it xx

Thanks Hayley. I get scared reading all these posts about how their doctors couldn't tell for years with no symptoms and normal test results and suddenly one day during an unrelated event happen to discover cirrhosis

Hi Daigo, I cant say much about whats happening due to the current climate, I have Cirrhosis and I've had 1 phone call since last November in June this year from my Hepatology Doctor. Ive also had one blood test all year and 1 ultrasound in August so nothing is normal practice at the moment im afraid, but your GP or specialist will put you in the required tests if needed. Ashley

You may want to discuss additional tests with your GP such as an ultrasound or fibrosis testing, dependent on Ultrasound findings.
