I have severe liver disease elf score risen to 10, but i havent had a drink for months, has anyone else had this result, if so did your liver then after a while start to heal?
Also is anyone taking sertraline antidepressant without any furthering of liver damage?
Your help is very much appreciated as I’m so anxious and worried

Hi there - try not to focus too much on the numbers (I know from experience just how difficult this is!) there are a lot of variables.
I can only talk from my own personal point of view, but my fibroscan score went up quite significantly in the 3 months after I gave up all drinking. Six months after that my score had improved compared with the first one, and that pattern seems to have continued. My disease will be different from yours and this is only one data point, but I guess the take away message here is that for whatever reasons things don't always flow in a nice smooth straight line.
Hi Tania - no, my disease was diagnosed with a combination of bloods, US, MRI, Fibroscan and ultimately biopsy. However, over the past couple of years not all results have always gone in the right direction - but, the overall trend has been good. In particular I, like you, was concerned when I didn't see an immediate improvement after I gave up alcohol (in fact I saw the reverse). Nevertheless, ultimately that improvement did occur, so please don't be disheartened, giving up the booze can only improve the situation.
Thank you so much for reassuring me. Have you had to resort to taking antidepressant medication? ( im sorry to keep asking you questions), If which one.
Hi Tania - No, I'm lucky enough not to have needed anything, however after I was diagnosed for weeks it was the first thing I thought about when I woke up and the last thing before I went to sleep. That did change, and now it's rarely on my mind - I'm doing all I can to help with my condition and I have found peace with that.
Please keep asking questions on this forum, you'll find loads of support here!
Glad you haven’t let it take over your mind, I’m going to try really really hard to do the same. I live alone so it’s difficult, not having support from a partner. I do have a lovely dog though for company.
I have had high and increasing ELF scores of 10, 11 and 12, but having lost weight and reduced drinking my liver function is normal and fibroscans only show moderate fatty liver. My consultant is not able to explain my high ELF scores, but says not to put too much weight on single type of test....Good luck....
Thank you for your reply Jimguru. I asked my doctor for a fibroscan but they don’t do it here so I had the ultrasound, got to go back in March for ELF test and another ultrasound. I haven’t drank for 6 months, exercise and eat healthily. So hopefully things have improved. Keep well.Tania
