Fibrescan score 29

recent liver fibrescan result was 29, meaning F4 (cirrhosis from alcohol hepatitis). Bloods stable, no varscies, portal vein ok, spleen ok. I was very poorly (not expected to live) in October, liver decompensated, high levels of ascites (3 5 litre drains in 2 weeks), kidneys AKI 3. Liver now compensated (thank the lord!), kidneys still struggling but not AKI and I get fatigued. Question, has anyone had a fibrescan than has improved? Is 29 very high? I had just eaten and the consultant said that can affect the reading. The hospital have been amazing and saved my life, I’m just wondering if I’ll slowly get better or slowly deteriorate? I’m eating well and looking after myself, don’t drink and try to keep to a low salt diet.

Yes, the numbers can come down if you quit.

Mine were 24+ six years ago and now 13.

I still have cirrhosis and you will also always have cirrhosis because all that word means is a description of the condition of our liver and NOT that we are deathly sick.

It's like an old car, a lot of TLC, good fuel and regular maintenance it can last forever.

Thanks very much. Not had a drink since October and not missed it. I wasn’t a heavy drinker I was one of those people who came home from work and drank a couple of glasses to wine to relax (de-stress) , but overtime my units creeped up when I lost my dad and the couple of glasses turned into a bottle some nights.

Same here. But if your honest it was often well into the second bottle and then some!

A lot of similarities there with grief etc. Sorry for your loss. Agree with Roy. Getting honest about the quantity of alcohol consumed is key in staying abstinent. Usually in my experience people always say less than what they actually drink especially in the early days of recovery. It’s just the addictive mind set talking. If you have ARLD than I think some seriously heavy drinking has been done over a long period of time at some stage in life but I’m not an expert.

Wishing you the very best and keep up the selfcare 😊

Thanks, I’m enjoying an alcohol free life now. Being so ill has certainly given me a very different and much more positive perspective on life and I don’t miss having a drink (which helps!!)

I’d prefer to be an old car ( not an electric one because I might blow up! ). Far less complicated 😂

Seriously though, it’s good to hear the simplicity of what you are saying about cirrhosis.

Wishing you the best.

I was diagnosed with cirrhosis 3 years ago (no Fibroscan, too much inflammation). Ascites, no varcies. Had a Fibroscan a year ago it was 8.8kpa. F1/F2 Fibrosis.

I’m going to have a private one done soon, I’ll post the result. Anything is possible, why not?

After my last hospital visit my GP wrote on my sick note , liver problems and not cirrhosis so im at a bit of a conundrum with this ?

Hi Chicken my fibroscan is 36.2 , was I think 35.4 6 months ago so gone up slightly. Was hospitalised in March 2022 1 week with ascites. Came out very week less that 10 stone. Now I am no longer decompensated LFTs are good, I'm fit, weighing 11 stone 10. So ..my fibroscan score over 16 months has not gone down but mine is high and 16 months is a short period of time I think. I have not drank since coming out of hospital. I try to eat healthy ( try lol ) and I exercise a lot perhaps 2-3 games of golf a week walking the course. So I think in my opinion I'm unsure if the actual up and down of the score is relevant it's how the big thing is working that's important.

Hope you get better soon

Taff
