I had a letter from my consultant yesterday saying he wants my Dr to keep an eye on me between appointments. I phoned his secretary to check that he had referred me to wythenshaw re injection of electrodes to help with pain, she said it was sent last week. I was just wondering whether to have the elf blood test to determine how much fat is around my liver. What do you guys think about this? I value everyones advice on here. Love and hugs to you all Lynne xxxx
Sorry I have no experience or even knowledge of elf. Is it something to do with Safety?

Hi
I think it's to do with how much fat is around your liver. I've had so much pain recently, my appetite is going downhill. Mind you I do need to lose weight!!! Take care Lynne

My SOH failed then 😁.

Hi Lynne, I have had it done, it turned out to be very accurate when compared to the fibroscan and ultrasound elastography. I also had another test which was very new but I couldn’t tell you what it was called as I forgot to ask.
Thank you for your reply. I'm going to ask my Dr when I see her on the 1st. How are you feeling? Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
Hi Lynne, the ELF test is a blood test which identifies the likelihood and severity of fibrosis. This is done using some clever algorithm. It does not tell you about fat in or around the liver. It doesn't give cause for the fibrosis. The higher the score the more fibrosis. I had the test which was over 10 ( can't remember exactly 10 . something), which my Dr classed as cirrhosis, along with other scan findings.
You can ask for the test, not all hospitals have access to it. My Hosp sent my blood to another bigger Hosp.
Hi Lynne, I've had two ELF tests. I was told it was to determine if I had fibrosis in my liver or not. Both scored between 9 &10 and I was told conflicting advice by my GP and consultant. GP said a score over 9.4 was high and needed further investigation and consultant said it had to be over 10.5. The lab who did the test said I needed another test in a year, yet the GP and NICE guidelines say 3yrs.
It was ultrasound that showed fat in my liver not the ELF test
Either way it seems there's nothing they will do for me in the meantime, I just have to be aware and make sure I have a healthy diet, no alcohol, take as little medication as possible and keep moving and hope my liver will repair itself.
My doctors told me after ruling out alcohol and medication and virus as a cause that I have genetic high cholesterol that has maybe caused it, so now I've started on a statin and hoping things will get better if I look after myself.
Thank you for your detailed reply
I hope that get sorted . Take care Lynne
Hi
Can my own drs do an elf test or would they have to send me to hospital to have it done? Love and hugs to you all Lynne xxxx
