Anyone know?

Does anyone know how quickly (or not) something you eat can affect your liver? Since my diagnosis in February of NAFLD I have been steadily loosing weight, I had a week when I felt great and had no pain. However I have had bad liver pain and itchy hands and feet all week and I am wondering if it is something I am eating. Could it correlate?

Bad guess it would take time to build up. Pain coming from inflammation is unlikely to occur overnight or week to week. Given time is a quandary time to heal is another.

Absolutely not the answer your looking for coming from one with Cirrhosis due to alcohol I never felt pain. 🤔

Hi, I’m no help as I’ve just been diagnosed with Liver failure, and put a post on here and I’ve yet had a reply. I may have put the notice somewhere so nobody could see it. I wish you all the best for the future,

Take care & keep safe

Teanna, looking at your profile for posts & replies you haven't got a post on here listed so perhaps it disappeared into cyberspace - if you post what you want on a new thread we'll see if we can help.

Hi, I did write on the Liver site and I did see it. Now I can’t, I just don’t know where it went. I know I’m not going mad through this horrible time of the virus, it scares me, but I know I did put it here.

Thank you for pointing this out, I do apologise.

Take care keep safe

Hi Teanna

😂 it’s great that we can see your posts it’s also nice to have someone that might be as bad as I am with technology 🤣.

I doubt that your as bad as me but sometimes I do get confused 😐 but the lovely people on this forum are worth learning a bit it technology because they give great support, so good luck look forward to hear from you 😃.

Hi Dogbot, yes I do get confused only because I have 10 different illnesses. Plus, I’ve not long been diagnosed with Lupus & Liver failure, it’s been overwhelming with info & I’m just getting used to these fairly new problems. The doctors don’t tell u much, so yr left to yr own devices. I’ve learnt a lot on here, lots of support & ideas.

I wish you all the best for the future.

Take care

Teanna, Hello, and I would like to welcome you, I am a new to this forum myself only been around for about 3-4 wks, or is it 6wks????... I get a bit confused , I make an excuse that its all the meds then I try the lockdown line, then as my dear dear friend reminds its probably dementia... so I just give in and accept it. I have to say that I was helped along by a chap called Alfredthegreat, and what a smashing chap, he gave me the confidence to write my very 1st post, and the smashing people here answered me and didn't mind my diction at all (in fact they do put up with a lot from me) but they are a smashing crowd, also the admins, always ready to help and are very very kind. Anyway just wanted to say Hi and wish you all the best, you can always give me a shout if you feel so inclined, Kind regards

Paderico.

Hi,

Thank you very much for kind words. Yes we are all isolated but it’s the small minority that let us down. I’m hoping the numbers mont go up becoz of the lovely weather, but I’m one of the lucky ones that have 2 gardens, and those poor people that have one room, it must be awful. But we must obey the law and hopefully come out the other side as better people. Yes it’s very lonely, I don’t see no-one, hear from no-one, bt I have a great carer who’s done everything, but there’s nothing like a chat, and it’s surprising what you had, maybe a little but little now means a lot.

I hope it made sense.

Take care & keep safe

Hi Teanna, okay I have NAFLD and my experience is this. If I eat crisps and bad things and have my blood tests my numbers go crazy. If I eat healthily and exercise...my numbers go super healthy! Keep going with your healthy eating and exercise, if it carries on then see your go. All the best Owlie

Teanna profile image
Teanna in reply toOwlie

I found that having a good diet and plenty of water helps with the pain. But I did have a drink VEday and I have been in a lot of pain. I can’t exercise due to being in a wheelchair, bt I was told that it’s good for u too.

Do you know what your markers was when you was told about them?

Take care

As I said, they are supposed to be around 100 but mine was over 600. Apparently there are only 2 hospitals in London that do a specialised blood test, The St Thomas’s and the Royal free. And the one that actual got the first machine & that is way down South. (There is and still is on U Tube), on BBC 4 and the radio, so you can get the programme, please watch it...

Teanna profile image
Teanna in reply toOwlie

Does that include liver failure? I don’t get an itch, I get a pain but mainly at the back coming around on the right side and across. I did not know anything until my GP called me and said the markers in my blood, they said it should be around 100 but both tests were over 600.

This damage was caused by medication for which I put on by at least 4 different consultants but they never had meetings to discuss me as they said that I was a very complexed case. In the end they were overdosing me with opiates, so it was not my fault.

Please keep safe and stay in.

Hi no to clarify I just have NAFLD, can’t comment on anything else. I did get the pain but it went when I lost weight and ate healthily. Be safe Owlie

Jojochr profile image
Jojochr in reply toOwlie

How long did it take you with a healthy life style to reduce your pain?. I have lost 10 % of my weight in 2 months but still a long way to go and I feel a bit better but pain not good.

Owlie profile image
Owlie in reply toJojochr

It was approximately 6/7 months, I woke up and it wasn’t there. I got an occasional twinge and then it went. I did completely overhaul my lifestyle and stuck to it and lost a lot of weight. It has to be a lifestyle change not just a one off.

Jojochr profile image
Jojochr in reply toOwlie

Thanks Owlie, the day I got told I changed my lifestyle immediately. Glad you have had good results from the changes you made. It gives me hope xx

Well Owlie this volunteer's definately declining the stretcher or Sedan chair carrying! Maybe the ski lift will be up and running by the time you and Alf get your heads together 🤣🤣🤣 Slowly does it😉😉😉

Hi Jojochr,

I found that through my illness with NAFL and then cirrhosis if I ate much of anything fatty like cheese and maybe bacon or pastry within one day then I would suffer within a few hours with discomfort under my ribs on the right hand side and my itching would be worse.

I found it better to have a little grated cheese now and then, one rasher of bacon as a treat and forget the pastry altogether!

You sound like you are doing things right with your weight loss so my only suggestions would be avoid fatty foods and drink plenty of water.

Best wishes to you.

Alf

Thanks Alf, someone in here said they have a treat on high days and holidays. I think that is a good way to go once I have reached my target and lock down will stem the high days and holidays for a while anyway! I will try and remember my water intake.... thanks for the reminder 😁
