Outpatients appointment

I've just been been informed that my outpatients appointment is still going ahead. Are others here still attending their next outpatient appointment?

Hi,

Some outpatients appointments are still taking place with use of distancing between each patient in the waiting room, however this is very rare and most clinics are now running remote consultation via the phone or FaceTime.

Can you clarify how your clinic is running before you attend? I’ve just read in your previous posts you have had a transplant so i would absolutely clarify matters with your medical team as you are meant to be shielding for 12 weeks as you are at very high risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19)

Best wishes

I certainly will and was going to. Thank you for your reply. Tate.

Hi,

Just to add , I have found this government information useful -

gov.uk/government/publicati...

In particular this section -

What should you do if you have hospital and GP appointments during this period?

We advise everyone to access medical assistance remotely, wherever possible. However, if you have a scheduled hospital or other medical appointment during this period, talk to your GP or specialist to ensure you continue to receive the care you need and determine which of these appointments are absolutely essential.

It is possible that your hospital may need to cancel or postpone some clinics and appointments. You should contact your hospital or clinic to confirm appointments.

Hope this helps and reassures

Hi trust 9

Have you heard yet if transplant patients have received letters from the NHS regarding shielding.

Also signed on to gov.uk for help as hubby is vulnerable due to transplant. Still nothing.

Got a choice here either end up dying of starvation or going out for food and risking death from the virus.

Not a very helpful government.

Good morning carmik,

Those in the extremely vulnerable category should have their letters by the very latest, this weekend ( depending where you are in the country- those in England will most likely have had theirs)

If you have not received your letter, please contact your GP and/or transplant team.

There is also shopping guidance on the British LIver Trust website:

britishlivertrust.org.uk/so...

You can also call us on the nurse led helpline on 0800 652 7330 Mon-Fri 10am -3pm.

Take care,

Thanks but I have spoken to Gp and liver transplant coordinators and getting nowhere.

I ticked "no "nobody to shop for us as well. So I have been getting shopping and coming back stripping of, clothes all in machine and jumping straight into a bath.

!!!!. Cant wait for the next fuel bill!!!!!

Hi carmik

When you registered did you say you didn’t have anyone who could do your shopping? At the moment I said I do have someone who can help so cannot say if you should hear back if you say No, you don’t have help. Someone on here may have done so?

Presume you are talking post transplant, in which case you definitely should have had a letter - mine came from my GP surgery.

Hope you get it sorted formally soon. In the meantime do you have any Help schemes running in your area? These kind people will get your shopping for you...

Good luck.

Miles

I've revived a number of letters from the Government, my transplant team and GP informing me that I am shielded. There is a link in these communications that allows you to register for food parcels, medication collection and many other support systems. If you haven't received any communication then you should contact your GP who will list you as vulnerable. Good luck and stay well.

Hi geordie - yes I meant to say I had had a letter - only one I think? - from the gov as well as GP. Thank you for reminding me!

in reply toThreeSmiles

Hello, I received a food parcel earlier this week which we didn't need so I've asked them not to deliver in future. We've a great support system in place and are getting all our essentials remarkably easily. There's no point in delivering to me when I don't need it at this time. I'm sure many other will though and hope that it's a help to them.

Grordie, on the gov.uk registration did you say you needed help with shopping? If you put No that is really interesting - is it some sort of Volunteer scheme and not the gov thing?

We haven’t had anything but I put we don’t need help atm because daughter is doing shopping for us. 🤞 No-one in her family - five children and hubby ! - get ill!

Hello, I did reply that we didn't need the food parcel, just assistance with occasional medication collection. The food parcel was delivered by our local parish council. Although Gilson is tiny there some outlying larger villages that I know are getting great support from both central and local government.

Great parish council 👍. Nothing from our council and we are tiny too 🙁 - but fortunately we don’t need any help atm with our daughter & family attached to us 👍..

I've just received a call from a surgeon at my local hospital and they want me to go for an appointment next week. They have decided the benefits outweigh the risks and they have said there wont be many other people there.

I'm not a transplant patient though.

Best wishes to you and stay safe.

Hi Mama, might you become a TP patient?

Hi Miles..no I have metastatic liver cancer so would never be eligible for a transplant. However on the positive side I have no need for a transplant as my liver (what is left of it) is in excellent working order 😊.

The reason I need to visit the hospital is due a breast lump..due to my previous medical history all lumps etc are always checked out asap 😊.

Well I do hope your liver continues to manage - which is great. 👍

But sorry to hear of other issues - it is good, though, that they are looking after you.

Good luck at your appointment.

I had to go in for an MRI. It was very empty, almost eerie. I think the staff was a little freaked out as well. l live in the US, my doctors are affiliated with a university/research hospital but the test was in the imaging center, a different building, several miles away. After screening questions, they brought me out to the mobile unit in the garage. I think they may have been trying to keep the equipment uncontaminated, well for whatever reasons, there was barely anyone in there. Stay safe Mama! x

Thank you. I hope you dont have to wait too long for your results. X

Thank you. I got the results the next day, another hemangioma to watch (#2) and a small fat-containing umbilical hernia. 😤 I also have a history of cancer, had a breast lump biopsied once too (benign, thankfully). Feel free to PM me if you think we're going off topic and want to discuss further. x

No, my consultant sent me a text to say my hospital appointment would now be a phone consultation!

Hi Geordie.

I was informed today that all outpatients appointments are cancelled at Lincolnshire hospitals until further notice.

So it looks like you just have to keep an eye on what's happening at your particular hospital because things are changing from day to day at present.

Best wishes to you.

Alf

I was informed that my next appointment will be by telephone. I understand that only those that are are newly transplanted or with ongoing issues will be seen face to face and for bloods. Thank you for the update though, appreciated.
