Liver or anxiety

Hi

I’m new here. I would like to have your opinion on my liver/gallbladder.

I had a routine blood test last year and all came back clear. The past 3-4 months I have been having pain and bloating under my right rib around to my back. I had a blood test 4 weeks ago and came back normal, ultrascan today came back normal.

Could it be my liver or anxiety?

I’m 30 and haven’t had the best diet and enjoyed wine on the weekends.

Hi rocky, it could be either pet. Stop the drinking and improve your diet straight away. This might help with the anxiety. If things don’t improve go back and ask to be referred for a scan. You need to go back to your GP who will be able to give you a diagnosis and hopefully relieve your anxiety 😊

Thank you for the reply lobby. I have started to eat healthy and cut out the drink since Iv had this pain. My family have a history of gallstones so I thought it was that until today when I had my scan and they said everything looks normal. I’m just worried it’s my liver and it won’t show up until it gets really bad. Pain and anxiety is not a good mix xx

Exactly dude. It doesn't show up even a bit till it gets real bad. And I am pretty much in your situation myself. I had three years of binge drinking sessions over and over again. And started to feel the dull ache and have stopped drinking since. But my test on US and blood work came back normal and also the docs considering my young age of 24 didn't really think anything bad. The pain persist and my family has a history of diabetes. Don't know what gonna happen. Regret much about my earlier drinking habit.

I have the same pain with clear ultrasounds and perfect blood.

My GI thinks i have an ulcer.

Google 'right upper quadrant pain ' as i did and it can

Be caused by any one of a huge list of things.

My GI said if it my liver was big enough to cause pain then it would have shown up on bloods AND ultrasound. But it isnt big at all so it must ne somthing else.

Do you need any further tests to find the ulcer?

If something is really wrong with my liver would it show in my blood and ultrascan?

Im getting an endoscopy soon. The GI thinks it will find an ulcer. We will see.

Chances are bloods and ultrasound would pick up liver problems but sometimes in liver disease bloods can be normal. 🤔

and ultrasound can occasionally miss subtle scarring on the liver.

Google 'fib 4 blood test' which usually picks up advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis.

I have had an endoscopy. I insisted about the pain after normal blood work and US. So the doc asked me for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. Yet I worry it's only my liver and not the colon.

In endoscopy they thrust a pipe through your mouth and look the insides of your stomach to see varices that swell up due to portal hypertension. But it's a late stage liver disease and won't come up early. And also the ultrasound can't detect the scarring only the proportional shape of the liver to check inflammation or fatty liver. As is said in most articles online you wouldn't be sure about the condition of your liver without a pin biopsy. Also it's very hard to detect early scarring as liver tends to function verly normally untill 50% of it gets scarred or so. Alcohol tolerance vary with persons and some may not get any liver damage with heavy drinking while other might with little. And it's not the same for everyone.
