I was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver a couple of years ago. Recent scans have revealed that I have 'Nodules' on my liver. I had a biopsy last year and they are non-cancerous. A recent scan has revealed that the nodules have increased in size by a couple of Millimetres. My liver specialist seems keen on 'ablating' them (i.e.Zapping them with high frequencies).
Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I'd prefer it if they were left alone, ideally.
Thanks,
Ron

Have they given you an actual diagnosis of these nodules? You may find our publication 'Benign tumours and cystic disease of the liver' useful to read before asking your doctor for more information.
Well, I was told by my liver specialist this morning that they basically appear to be benign but that it's possible they could turn cancerous over time. So he's suggest a procedure which involves 'planting' tiny plastic (I think he said plastic) granules in the liver via an artery. These will stop the blood flow to the areas where the nodules are and should kill them and/or stop them growing.
Hello Ron, I am here in the Usa. I have never heard of this procedure. I too have cirrohsis with nodules. And I see Dr here in the states top drs at the Ohio State University here in Ohio, and my gastroenterologist wanted to biopsy nodules. My hepatologist said absolutely not, you will have nodules with cirrohsis, the less you have any Injury to liver the better. Biopsies can even be bad for patients with liver diseases. My opinion would be no. But this would be totally up to you . Good luck
I had a biopsy last year and the result was that the said that the nodules appeared to be non-cancerous. I didn't want them to be 'ablated'.
But now my recent scans revealed that the nodules have grown by about 2mm and when I saw the specialist a couple of days ago he wanted to do a new procedure as he was now worried about the proximity of my gall bladder. I don't know what's changed!
The new procedure involves injecting some tiny granules into an artery and somehow they will end up in my liver and cut off blood supply to the nodules!
I'm going to investigate and think about it. Sounds like a harebrained idea to me!!
