Prednisolone v. Prednisone

I am about to start the last phase of tapering down from the present 10mg a day.

I saw my GP this morning who suggested that I do it over about 3 months going down by 1mg each time. I have been on Prednisolone since my treatment for AIH started and will continue with my usual monthly blood tests to monitor things.

However, there seems to be a shortage of 1mg tablets so I have had 1mg Prednisone tablets dispensed to me instead. Do I recall reading that some people had problems with Prednisone and is 1- 4mg enough to make a noticeable difference?

Hello,

I believe prednisone is broken down into prednisolone via our metabolism of the drug in the liver, so there should not be an issue in using prednisone now that your liver is functioning better. The thing I find odd is that most doctors put people with active AIH on prednisone (not prednisolone) here in the US. It seems prednisolone would make more sense... I will ask my liver doc about that at my next appt. Hopefully your taper goes well. I will be doing this final leg of steroid taper as well - starting this month if my labs look good. Best wishes!

Thanks for that information and I hope your tapering goes well too.
