If you stop drinking, those results will improve. If your diet is generally poor ie too much salt, sugar, fat and carbohydrates, by adopting a healthier diet and incorporate daily excercise too, it will all help
Thanks a lot Laura009. I've stopped drinking completely since 2 months now. Can my liver go back to normalcy ? I have a medical examination in 2 months and need near perfect physical conditions.
Thanks.
Hello Raaz, the fibroscan result on it's own just measures the stiffness of the liver. The liver function test merely shows the state of the liver at that moment in time. It should be remembered that a person can have cirrhosis, but still have normal blood readings.
Your doctor may well order up more tests to find out if the liver is damaged in any way and if it is, what stage of liver disease the liver is at. If it's at the Fatty liver stage, or the Fibrosis stage, then with certain life style changes, the damage is reversible and the liver can heal itself. It should be pointed out that when the liver does repair itself it does cause the liver to become scared. As these scares build up, the liver can reach the cirrhotic stage.
This my friend is your wake-up call, Your only 26, with many years ahead of you. Look after your liver, and it'll look after you. Trust me, you really don't want to go down the road that some of us have been down. Knock the alcohol on the head for at least 6-weeks, better still try not to drink at all. Life without alcohol is a whole lot richer.
If you wish to learn more about Alcohol-related liver disease, l've put together my own website at: taep.co.uk you may hopefully find this interesting.
Good luck.
Hi Raaz. This is my first comment on here. Now that I’m on the recovery path to normality following liver failure and a stretch in hospital, I feel in a better place and your question compelled me to reply due to your test results almost identical to my own, which was only 6 months before the failure and cardiac arrest.
I drank mostly in moderation, which left us confused. My GP failed to see the results and act on the hospital advice, so no follow up tests because he stated he didn’t see it due to the recent medical record being updated with mental health reports. I had a very prolonged period suffering Hep E (I had it in September and still evident when in hospital 6 months later). I’d also had over exposure at work to Arsenic and involved in two incidents involving very toxic gases (can’t elaborate with details).
I now have Cirrhosis but very lucky the scaring is at a minimum for the disease. As long as I’m on my meds I should have a normal life, avoid all toxins and stick to a strict diet, I’ll be okay. Easy to stick to when experiencing symptoms of HE.
I’m just 40, doc said it took a while to revive me. I’ve lost my career which I studied many years for, but happy that I get to see my kids grow up.
Avoid all toxins. Eat healthy, drink your coffee and your liver will heal fine. If you are feeling sick or unexplained illness, get it checked ASAP. Have repeat tests every couple of months, demand it. Check symptoms, if you start to suffer them, get it checked. Stopping drinking will seriously reduce the chance of End Stage Liver Disease developing, keep it up!
All the best Raaz.
Russ.
Hi, the fibroscan itself does not say anything. It can increase if high ALT in the blood, there may be other reasons. Large body weight as an example. Then need a special sensor.
It also depends on the reason the Dr decided to do a fibroscan, it's not just a routine test and its usualy done after some other tests (bloods, ultrasound) have shown an abnormality.
All the tests have to be read together to reach a diagnosis.
Good afternoon Hidden, We are unable to comment on and interpret an individuals results.
As the other forum members have said, lots of different factors need to be considered in forming a diagnosis.
For clarification may I suggest you discuss your results with the Doctor who requested the fibroscan .
Best wishes
