Rejection

Getting hubby home tomorrow morning, 4 1/2 months since his transplant already.

When he went to clinic last Tuesday, he got a call on Wednesday to be admitted on Thursday morning.

Body was rejecting his new liver. All his meds have been changed and MRI scan done.

The doctors are working hard to get the fluid away as well, which is great, as it hinders him.

He’s been on IV steroids, and feels like superman!

Thank goodness These doctors look after patients so intensely post transplant, eternally grateful to them all.

It's the best time to have rejection in the first year 😊 I had the same about six months post and as your hubby changed all my meds and I felt like superwoman 😂😂

They will just keep a closer eye on him for the next few months but it's all for the best and I haven't had any rejection problems since (fingers crossed 🤞)

Hopefully the rest of his journey will be smooth sailing now for you both x

Oh gosh Agnes! I heard it could happen any time but didn’t really want to believe it, but as you and jojo have shown it can and does happen. Yoiks!

Hope he continues to feel like Superman 😁👍 (for ever 👍👍👍!)

Haha, doubt that will happen Miles!!! And he only knew because of his blood tests at clinic, he didn’t feel unwell.

Hope he's back on an even keel very soon Agnes. I had a short spell of early rejection very early on after transplant, they had me in and sorted it and I've been absolutely fine since. All good wishes. Alf

Hi Agnes

Sorry to hear that you’ve been having a hard time but so glad that hubby has responded so well and hopefully he will continue to do so. Like Jojo, my hubby also had rejection just after transplant then again at about 4months and has been as right as rain since. Like you say it’s great that the transplant team are so attentive we’re so lucky.

Take care, Pam xx

No need to worry, it’s all about medication adjustments, rejection sounds like failing but it’s not, well not once these Superb doctors get their hands on you!

Hi there, i started rejecting my transplant after just 3 months but as you have said they changed my meds, hooked my up to steroids and got it sorted. Had to have a few liver biopsies after and the steroids gave me diabetes but

apparently this is well know for. I was on insulin but as i knew it was steroid induced diabetes i looked up what to do and eat and after a few years managed to get my insulin down and now have been insulin free for over a year. The good news of this is i get my meds for free 😁. Just letting you know be aware of this in the future as i didn't have a clue. I have a couple of opps since my transplant, 1st one because of two hernias and the 2nd, last year was my bloody appendix give up. I have decided enough us enough now lol.

Anyway i am now five and half years post transplant and still here doing well. Please let your husband know he will be ok and to stay positive, he is in good hands and will be fine. Good luck and have a happy future x 😁

Thank you for the information. He’s to test his blood for diabetes now, never had a problem before, I’ll know to watch his diet as he does have a sweet tooth, he also has a hernia but that can wait for now. Didn’t give him a biopsy although they were going to, might do one later.
