Hi All.

Just an update to my fibroscan results.

Today I had a phone call from my consultant with my results.

Not good news I have cirrhosis again 14 months post op.

I don't know what will happen now,

But my consultant is going to Birmingham on Friday and will discuss my results with the Liver team.

I got an appointment in Birmingham on the 1st of December so I guess I'll find out then.

Just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them.

Thanks in advance.

Darren

Don't recognise a % figure as a score you'd get via fibroscan. Fibroscan often provides two scores - CAP which reflects any fatty build up and kPa which shows density/fibrous change. CAP goes upto about 400 and kPa 75. Depending on underlying condition the kPa can indicate differing levels of fibrosis F0 (No fibrosis) to F4 which is cirrhosis. Sometimes fibroscan can be falsely high if there is liver inflammation present.

You say you are post transplant so obviously you will need some urgent medical feedback to discuss your results and see what future interventions are required.

Who arranged the fibroscan? What regularity of follow up have you had following your transplant and what caused your first liver to fail? Obviously if you have cirrhosis again now they need to ascertain why your transplanted liver has become so damaged, so soon.

Hopefully you have some medical follow up to discuss things a.s.a.p.

my first ĺiver failed because of cirrhosis and my consultant arranged the fibroscan to see how the new liver was doing.

After the transplantationi had a severe rejection plus was told that i had scaring to the bile duct.

My consultant phoned me yesterday and is organising a liver biopsy to find out more but said i would be extremely unluckily to have cirrhosis again.

I haven't drank alcohol for 4 years.

Thanks

If your liver bloods are currently perhaps out of range then the fibroscan can give a false high reading since the machine can't differentiate between ongoing inflammation and actual fibrous tissue. Biopsy is the logical next step to see what's going on.

Refs if this helps at all to you ...

was in hospital first time in March this year diagnosed with decompensated liver disease. Had a scan while there with a mobile type unit found out it was 74 , my whole world fell apart.

Got out of hospital March 30th. Not had any alcohol, eating healthy and exerciseing. Went to see heptologist 2 weeks.ago they stuck me on a fibrescan machine prior to meeting was 35. When I questioned this doc said sometimes if operator is not quite doing it correctly you get these false positives and noway would it have been 74. Ask them to re do it again.

By the way my bloods are now in the green and I know longer have any acites or symptons

Hi all, went to Birmingham to see the liver team, with the purpose of finding out about my fibroscan results.

2 people tried to give me another scan, consultant and a nurse who does fibroscans everyday. And both couldn't find my liver. So is this normal after a transplant?

What did they say about it & about their inability to locate the liver?

What are they proposing as next steps?

Hi Katie.

Not much really, just more tests and bloods.

They said the bloods they took from me on the day will show if i got more damage.

But i dont know what bloods will show this?

Do you know what blood tests will show these results.

Thanks

Obviously if you have got cirrhosis again you may have blood results that show the liver is struggling - some may be elevated, some too low. They know what they are doing at Birmingham though it might have been helpful of them to share a bit more information with you.

Did they not do an ultrasound or anything? Just tried for the fibroscan again I take it.

You obviously do need more tests to ascertain what is going on.
