Ultrasound Results Dont Match Blood Work

Hi there, I am a 67 year old male. My doctor actually was going to order me a Aortic Scan to see if I was at high risk for stroke. It is provided by my Insurance as a preventative procedure, so I did it. Only problem is that my Doctor accidently ordered a abdomen Ultrasound test. The test found everything ok except on my Liver, said the following. "Ultrasound of the abdomen shows fatty Liver and some areas of possible early Cirrhosis. Liver is Echogenic and is of normal size but has an irregular liver contour." Under the "Impression Notes, it said " Fatty Infiltration of Liver, mildly irregular liver contour raising concerns for superimposed Cirrhosis. No Cholelithiasis or Biliary dilation.

I have drank alcohol moderately since my early 20's and currently once about every 2 weeks I will have 4 or 5 drinks of Rum and have done so for the last 3 years.

On my blood work all Liver related tests are in the complete normal range except my Alkaline Phosphate level is 113 which is high normal.

Will be seeing a Liver specialist in a few weeks but would appreciate any feedback.

Al

Best advice is stop drinking, eat better cut out fats and salts and more exercise and don't panic too much fatty liver can be reversed as long as you look after yourself and its a positive sign your bloods are OK 😊

Hi Al, I was reading some statistics on the internet yesterday that said that NAFLD is on the rise and that 1 in 3 people in the UK are estimated to have it, In the early stages it does no harm but it can progress to serious liver damage and cirrhosis if it gets worse. When the liver is in trouble the best thing you can do for it is to eat healthily, Lose weight if you are overweight and stop drinking alcohol because it is a toxin to the liver and a poorly liver can't cope with it. You can reverse the damage if you act now. If you don't eat healthily and you continue to drink alcohol your liver will be sure to suffer further damage and it can become irreversible. Regards Alf
