QE, Birmingham 5000 Liver Transplant Party

I happened to be up at the QE last night for our monthly meeting of the the "Liver Transplant Support Group". These are the guys who visit and talk with patients on the ward after having had their transplant and who talk about their experiences to those people attending the transplant assessment. (Some of you may remember Alan Hyde, Alan has been doing this voluntary job for almost 20-years now).

Last night I spoke of the up and coming transplant party to be held up at the Aston Villa Football club on the 15th June. This is to celibate the 5000th liver transplant to be carried out by the fantastic staff at the QE.

All previous transplantees are being invited to attend. However, these invitations have only just started to go out, and as you'll appreciate, 5000 invites are a lot of people.

Each fellow transplantee can invite up to four people to attend with them.

Confirmation of a persons wish to attend is to be completed online.

This should make for a wonderful day out. So this is defiantly a date to put in the diary.

Hi

Does this only include transplantees from QE2 or anybody operated on elsewhere in the country?

This is a celebration of the 5000th Liver transplant carried out be the staff at the QE Birmingham. This is just for those who were fortunate to have received their transplant at the QE. Sorry, but maybe other transplant centre's might want to do something similar in the future.

Oh that’s amazing. I saw the liver transplant coordinator initially, and although I wasn’t suitable because of the PVTT, he was an exceptional individual. 5000 lives! 5000 donors That’s very humbling.

Received my invitation today, would love to go but it's too far to travel from where I live in Merseyside. Hope those who do attend have a great time, all the best
