Milestone for QE Birmingham Liver Transplant Teams

As I've already mentioned, today (1st Oct) is my first year anniversary of my liver transplant. My transplant was carried out by the staff at the QE Birmingham. As it turns out, they have recently completed their 5001st liver transplant.

I know of over 40 people whose lives have been both saved and changed by these wonderful teams. This achievement should be highly respected and honoured. Well done to every single one of you, who's real dedication and professionalism is all about saving lives.

Hi I hope your well.

Im new to this group, & wanted to ask how long you had to wait for a transplant pls? My 16yr old son, was diagnosed with Auto Immune Liver Disease in September 2019, & we are feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment and would appreciate any advice you could offer. Also what does A, B, C mean regarding transplant status.

Many Thanks

Naz.

Hi Naz

This post was written three years ago by someone who has left the forum hence why their name comes out as “Hidden”...

A quick answer to your question is that the time to get a transplant varies tremendously from person to person. The first step though is to get Assessed formally by the liver transplant Hospital. I know this is the first hurdle your son will have to go through.

Wrt the process please have a look at the patient guides I referred you to in your last post. If you have any specific questions you can always ring the British Liver Trust Helpline who can be contacted on:-

Again, good luck to you both.

Miles
