Due in hospital tomorrow and worried.

Hi there I'm new here.

I was on holiday 2wks ago and the last few days of it I started to feel sluggish and ended up diarrhea. I put this down to foreign foods and over indulgence but it continued to worsen in the following days after returning home. My abdomen is so swollen I look heavily pregnant and I have a lot of pain that fluctuates under my ribs especially on the right side.

After seeing the gp on Friday morning I quickly received a call saying I was to head to the hospital where I was admitted to the surgical ward. Hours of poking and proding, bloods and an ultrasound they said I have fatty deposits on my liver and its slightly enlarged. They discharged me but I'm due back in tomorrow, they didn't really give much information and just said I need a more detailed scan and I'll be in for a few hours at least. I'm worried about what I may be told, nothing has eased with my symptoms and I'm now vomiting 😔

Hi Yorkie and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling so ill. Hopefully after tomorrow you will get a clearer picture and find out where things go from here. None of us can diagnose on here but we are very good at supporting people going through ill health. All I can advise you to do, due to your present symptoms, Is to eat a fairly bland diet that will not upset your system further and don't drink any alcohol. If you are being sick make sure you keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Try not to stress (easier said than done I know!) I hope it all goes as well as possible tomorrow . Very best wishes. Alf

Thank you for the reply its a relief to just to get it out as ive not really expressed any concerns to anyone so not to worry those closest. Yes definitely no alcohol and and eating very small but bland meals (type1 diabetic so I need to eat though I don't feel like it)

Be sure and look after yourself. Your mind will be going through all sorts of worst case scenarios and things may well be not as bad as you are fearing. I have just read a post on here where someone was was desperately ill and through healthy living they have now been told that they are very well and they needn't be seen now for 6 months. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and have everything crossed. Hang on in there. Alf

Hi Yorkie and welcome. You've come to the right place for support. Alf's spot on in what he has said and I can't really add to it apart from try not to get too anxious, it doesn't help atall. Although saying that makes me a bit of a hypocrite as I get stressy too, but try not let it overwhelm you.

It'd be great to hear how you get on. Wishing you the best.

Thank you for your reply, yes it's easy to let my mind run away with its self but I just need to deal with tomorrow and take it from there. Ill definitely post to let you know how it goes.

Good luck today Yorkie, remember scans only tell us what is already happening and give us the kniwledge to be able to react to it.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Hi Yorkie, How is it all going? I expect you're exhausted with it all when you are not feeling well. Alf

Hi there, that's me just not long home. Feeling really tired but glad to be home.

My doctor was held up in theatre so unfortunately there was a lot of just sitting around. When I did get to see him he was apologetic but rushed. He confirmed I will get a ct scan with contrast so they can have a better look and this is being arranged. I've to go back on Friday morning to see him and if my stomach is still as swollen and I'm feeling much the same ill be admitted for further testing including the camera up the back passage 😲

Overall I'm happier than I was yesterday and feeling less worried. Thank you for the kind words and support.

Hi Yorkie, I'm glad that you aren't as worried now. It sounds like the hospital is being very thorough and that's a good thing. You are in the best hands. Once the scan and any other tests are done you will at least know what is wrong and be informed of what happens next and that may be nothing like you're imagining. Get some good rest now you are home and 'think healthy'. All the very best. Alf

Hi

How did you get on today? Hope you got sorted

Thank you lynne that's so kind of you. Everyone has been so supportive and it's much appreciated. I've to go back in on Friday and if things haven't settled I will be admitted. I'm awaiting a ct scan but guessing that may be quicker if I was to be admitted. Overall I'm feeling happier and less worried than yesterday xx

Hi Yorkie, How are things going? Alf

Hi Alf, im doing ok thanks though my appointment yesterday didn't go the way I'd hoped. Im being admitted on Tuesday to day surgery where they are going to look at everything in closer detail and check my bowel. I haven't had much time to process it as ive been kept busy. In hospital all day with my daughter who has given herself a bad concussion and now getting ready to get back to work with a 3am rise!

I hope you are keeping well?

Wow, it never rains but it pours!! Hope your daughter is ok now. Try not to worry about Tuesday. They have to do tests to rule out things as well so try not to let your mind go into overdrive. If there is something wrong then the sooner you know the sooner you can receive treatment. Try to enjoy this nice weather over the next 2 days. Worrying never alters anything. Will be thinking of you. Alf

Hi

Glad you are feeling happier and less worried. I know what you mean, if you were admitted they would do every test that you needed! Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

If you continue to vomit you should go back to A E .. so sorry you are going through this. We all can relate of how scary things are and can be. Such a rollercoaster ride.

The people on this forum are wonderful and it is really the only place I can really express my true feelings and fears, sparing my family of my worries.

Hi Yorkie85,

Hoping you are improving and that things go well at your next appointment.

Best wishes,

Mary
