Had a liver biopsy

Still recovering after last weeks procedure. I have three new holes and massive bruising running down my ribcage. It was a percutaneous procedure with ultrasound but despite managing to get a good view of my liver, the surgeon couldn't see the end of the sample needle. After moving down a rib, he tried again but same result. Then on the third go, he got a perfect view but the samples were too small and he had to take three separate samples to get enough usable tissue.

The whole thing took 90 minutes from start to finish and was intolerable by the end, particularly the pain in my shoulder after keeping my right arm behind my head the whole time (along with referred pain from the actual procedure).

But at least it's over and done with now. I can't fault the surgeon or any of the nurses who looked after me before and afterwards. Everyone was really supportive and friendly. I only hope they managed to get enough tissue to figure out what's going on in there.

I'm sorry to hear that you were in pain when you had your biopsy. I only had one small wound although he had to try twice to get a reasonable sample. The first sample was painless but the second was really quite painful but at least it's done now. I hope you get a confirmed diagnosis now they've done the biopsy.
