My husband had a liver biopsy, after 5 hours of laying still he was in so much pain but was discharged without any pain medication. The pain got worse that night, he couldn’t lay down and it was affecting his breathing. We went to the ER, they took blood samples and CT-scan...everything came back normal and they sent him home with some pain medication this time. Well, it’s been a week and the pain has not gotten any better...his GI said it’s normal to have aching pain sometimes! Really? Is it?

I can’t comment on the medical side of things but if you go to the search bar at the top right hand side and search e.g. liver biopsy pain. You may find some posts from other people that have had biopsies and they are giving their experiences. Hope that helps a little.
My diaphragm was damaged during my liver biopsy and that caused immense pain and breathing problems, I was given morphine for the rest of that day then powerful painkillers to take home, it took several weeks for it to get better.
Hi.i had biopsy over 2months ago and was in pain for quite a while and still have dull ache sometimes.i did visit gp and its normal because has he explained you have been wounded in an organ and it just takes time,i just took normal pain relief and its getting better.
Hi phoenixp. I had pain after my liver biopsy and it went on for over a week. The hospital gave me paracetamol before I was discharged. A lot of people on here have had liver biopsies and had no problems and some have had discomfort rather than pain. I think the difference is maybe the area that the biopsy is taken from. I had 2 samples taken from different areas. The pain will go, it just takes it's time with some of us. Hope your hubby's pain goes soon. Regards Alf
Went on for a week Alfred?! You must have been scared to death. Thats horrible!
Through my work over the years I have had broken ribs, broken toes, broken coccyx, welding flashes. It was another unpleasant pain. So as you can see I have been quite used to pain. This was just another one for me. Not pleasant, It put me in bed for the first week but it eventually went.
How is your hubby now? Is the pain getting any less?
