Aching in upper right quadrant
The only person that can tell you is your doctor. It could be anything from a strain through to a problem with your liver. Without tests, scans and bloods it is totally impossible to say...
I have had a similar pain and was diagnosed with costochondritis and I was sure it was my liver.
But I did quit alcohol for 4 months and have lost 10kg, have stacks more energy and a better life as a result. Nobody that knew thought that I would ever give up or be able to as I was a really great drinker!
I would suggest quitting for 3-4 months and seeing if the pain subsides and getting to your Doctor for a check up.
All my tests come back normal. Lft, all other blood tests are normal. Had a ct scan and they said everything looks good. Not even fatty liver. Im just wondering could they be wrong even with all those tests? Could they have missed it or is the ct scan a good indicator? Ever heard of this kind of thing going undetected?
You are totally guessing - as is anyone who gives you a diagnosis in an Internet forum!
The liver can be damaged and you can have clear scans and bloods but it isn’t a binary situation, as in it is either fine or effed!
What type of pain are you getting? Can you describe the sensation and location?
Hi fallout.
If as you said the pain gets worse after you drink, I'm assuming you mean alcohol? If that's the case then stop drinking. It sounds as though it's already causing damage to your liver. If however you stop drinking your liver can recover as long as any damage already done is minimal. Your pain is your liver telling you you are poisoning it which is exactly what alcohol is .... a poison. If you ignore the pain and continue drinking it will not repair and you'll find it will deteriorate rapidly, by which time you may find yourself addicted and have a hard time trying to quit. Long term it will become fatty liver to cirrhosis with many other complications and could in turn cause premature death. Sorry if I'm being blunt but it killed my husband at just 54 and hate to see so many people fall down the same slippery slope. Take care of yourself.

Laura is right - she is always right and has lived through the pain of losing somebody to alcohol which is a terrible thing - but you do also need see a Dr and not just quit drinking.
Depending on how addicted and reliant on alcohol you are will depend on whether you can just give it up or whether you need some help.
It is also important to confirm that it is your liver and not something else.
Go Laura go.
Well said (again). Keep plugging it, me, i’m 4 and a half years NIL alcohol not even sherry trifle. And the money I’ve not spent piddling it down the drain is great. Looking forward to when I can go on holiday again - its been a long time coming!
