I've just received notification from my doctor that my alt blood reading is 102. He is rechecking in a month. I am feelibg anxoous about this. I have no other symptoms and feel really well. Should I be overly worried ? I'm giving up alcohol...I've been drinking too much wine over past few months!!

It is hard to say what has caused the damage to your liver based on the information you have provided. Treating or eliminating the cause is the most effective way to help your liver. Until your next appointment I would advise that you absolutely QUIT any use of alcohol (or medications not prescribed by your physician).. Your life is not worth losing over alcohol. It takes time to get used to but this is your life. I likely will not live a long life due to my previous use of alcohol and I am only 43. Maintain a healthy diet avoiding processed or greasy foods, this means no fast food. Avoid spicy foods. Eat foods that are prepared healthy and high in antioxidants such as:

blueberries

raspberries

cranberries

raisins

apples

beans

artichokes

russet potatoes

pecans

walnuts

hazelnuts

This will assist your liver in ridding it of free radicals attacking your liver. Drink plenty of water unless otherwise advised by your physician. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. I've had a few very pressured months and have been drinking too much red wine to self medicate! Doc thinks it will reverse quickly.. a scarey wake up call tho!!

Yes I'm sure it will reverse but it's good that you are being pro active about your health early. I wish I had! Well good luck darling! Let us know how it goes!

Hi, hopefully this will not be a permanent situation for you. You do not want to damage your liver. Believe me your quality of life will suffer badly for good. I have auto immune disease related cirrhosis and it’s not fun.

Your liver has a powerful ability to rebuild itself so don’t lose heart. Try a liver tonic containing milk thistle complex. It’s been long proved to help plus eat as many great vegetables as possible. Cut out sugar and as much processed foods as possible. This will give your organs all they need to heal and regrow. Also check that you haven’t taken some medication recently that your liver has reacted too, antibiotics, pain killers, anything really, have you changed birth control even. If you eliminate all these possibilities and it turns out you’ve simply been drinking too much then it’s within your power to get better so that is good news. There are ways to distress without a drink. Get some good advice and try some new things. Try to come off alcohol completely for two months and in that time with the right care your liver could easily heal itself. You can do it!!!! e
