Elevated ALT score

Had a few blood tests recently and one of them shows an ALT score of 57 which is on the high side. Read somewhere that strenuous exercise tends to raise ALT levels as does alcohol, viruses like Hep B, C, etc. My score can only be from intense exercise (I hope) since I've ruled out the other obvious causes so was wondering if I should cut down on the time at the gym or not worry about it since it's apparently normal? I know exercise is encouraged after transplant and generally but maybe it's a case of 'too much of a good thing'?

I wouldn't worry about it hunni mine still in the 100's and consultants are not concerned at all 😁 carry on with your exercise

Thanks jojo was freaking out about to call the transplant coordinators 😂.

Wouldn't have thought much of it but the GP is calling tomorrow to discuss my renal profile and the serum ALT score was the thing that stood out along with the platelets which were at 130 so I hope it's nothing to worry about.

Kidneys always get effected especially with tablets were on mine are a third reduced and again doctors are not concerned I think gp's worry a hell of a lot more than the transplant hospital .... And I good thanks just hoping iron infusion improves my energy levels 😁

You were right jojo, the consultant wasn't concerned whatsoever 😊. He said it's ever so slightly above normal but this is to be expected. Was actually an improvement over the test from last appointment 4 months ago! Kidney function excellent too so nothing to worry about, just the GP being a drama queen 😅

Glad to hear it 😘 most gp's do panic but in some circumstances it's good that they do ... I must have the most laid back GP ever he never panics lol

I best put off that high intensity training for a bit then, lol. Will just have to stick to using the stairs instead of the lift

Have you been checked for hemochromatosis it can affect your liver also but it a very hard disease to detect it can only be found threw blood test. Basically if you have an overload in iron it begins to harm your other organs.

Haven't been checked for that but if anything my iron levels would be too low as I was prescribed iron tablets a couple of months ago. I'll mention it at the liver clinic in a couple off weeks anyway. Cheers

First off, the ALT level may just be high normal, not high. It depends on lab range. If so, high normal is just that... normal.

Second, liver function tests have to be looked at in concert with one another. An elevated ALT with no other abnormal labs is going to be less concerning than if others were off too. You have to work with a medical team and not try to make the call on your own.

ALT is more liver specific than AST in assessing liver damage.

Hi my ALT gradually increased from 70 to 90 . Other Liver enzymes normal.

Has anyone tried Vitamin E high strength for liver enzymes?
