Does this look like jaundice? Had blood work done a month ago everything can back normal. Just worried if you look at my eyes straight without lifting an eyelid the are white but underneath and the sides seem yellow.
Is this jaundice?: Does this look like... - British Liver Trust
Is this jaundice?
It doesn't look like your eyes are jaundiced. Given that your blood test came back normal stop obsessing about the health of your liver and enjoy your life.
Jaundice is caused by high bilirubin, so if this (bili) is testing normal it should be impossible to have jaundice.
The only exception I can think of is if you had gallbladder trouble (bile obstruction from a stone) spiking bili briefly high, which might cause mild staining the whites of your eye for a time, while bilirubin returned to normal by the time you got tested.
You should have known it if you had a gallbladder attack. They typically are quite painful.
Antibiotic therapy can also cause cholestasis (thick/gummy bile) that might cause a brief spike in bili and stain the whites of your eye, again with bili returning to normal by the time you got tested.
If the above mentioned possibilities have occurred, the bili staining in the eyes should clear up within a month or so. Normal labs always an optimistic sign you don't have anything substantially/chronically out of whack.
If worried go to GP
Doesn't look like jaundice and if you had you don't need to pull your eye lid down to see it, it affects the whole eye
Have you looked at a pic of a true jaundiced eye ? No yours isn't.
Hi Vinny,
No one on this forum is medically trained to assess for jaundice. We would suggest you see your own doctors for a physical examination.
Best wishes

Funny, your eyes look like how mine do presently. I have Gilbert's Syndrome. I did in November suffer acute Hepatitis from Antibiotic reaction and i can tell you my eyes were completely yellow, I have it mild by all accounts but still very obviously yellow. Like He-man 80's cartoon yellow. 6 months later and I'm "almost" ok now. Liver got away with it.
Has Dr mentioned Gilbert's? Alcohol drugs of any sort even dehydration can exacerbate symptoms which can include yellowing of eyes. I do get occasional it as well if I get dry but usually nausea fatigue stomach ache and yellowing of eyes, finger tips too sometimes my mouth mildly. No gallstones no liver scarring.
Can I just say, slightly off topic but maybe relevant, has anybody looked at the streak in your nail????
Can be a a sign of B12 or calcium deficiency. B12 being an anaemia could affect blood and unstabalise bilirubin levels amongst other things.
In fact in your photo it see to run through a few nails. This is something you should see GP about.
Do you drink Vinny or take long term medication?
No, you nutter.
maybe, check terry's nail, and speak with your doc. your eyes look ok.
Don't think that's Terry's nail. They typically go white over half way up and you lose half moon then the top is brown, reddish horizontally. His nail(s) has vertical stripes. This looks more like deficiency or melantonic changes. I'm glad you also noticed the nails though. See the Dr about them Vinny.
What is melatonin change?
Melatonin is what gives you a tan, freckles moles all of it. Your nails show vertical lines of melatonin like coloration that "could" be anaemia B12/Calcium etc amongst other things.
You should really get them checked! 👍🏼
Hope you get all your answers soon. Best of luck!
