I'm so glad that I found this place, I've had messages that could break your heart, inspirational stories that have moved me, but most of all people that want to help, people that have gone through what I'm going through, it makes me more determined than ever, thank you to all of you that have taken time out to message me, truly amazing, and I hope one day I can be the person helping somebody else.

Best wishes Jeff

This place was my lifesaver in 2016. I will always be on here & if I can't be of any help then I can at least be an ear to listen or shoulder to cry on.xx

Thanks, to find this forum has been so positive, only one negative person who said I was full of self pity 😂, I know what is wrong with me, my consultant is very direct which is how I want it, I now have to work hard, I've not had a drink for 3 weeks now it's a starting point, and I ain't going back again.

Same here!!

Hello again Jeff, thanks for those kind words. I've thought of a few things which might be of some help. On the British Liver Trust main website, your find under the heading, "Find Support", your'll find a section were some people have shared their own experiences. You might find some of these stories enlightening: britishlivertrust.org.uk/yo...

Why not consider sharing your story with others. This will not only be helping you, but hopefully help others out there too. And yes, my own personal story is up there too.

The other thing I would strongly recommend, is doing an online course. I have already done one which was put together and overseen by the Liver Research team at Birmingham University. These courses are FREE. But I had paid for mine as I wanted to have the end of course certificate. These courses are run a few times a year, and the course called, "Liver Disease: Looking after Your Liver" starts on the 28th May: futurelearn.com/courses/liv...

The other course which is also run by the same team at Birmingham is called, "Liver Transplant: the Ins and Outs". This particular course has not long finished, but you can always sign up for when it starts again: futurelearn.com/courses/liv...

These courses last for three weeks and are a wonderful insight, You just need to be able to set aside 3-hours a week for 3-weeks.

I think a lot of people who have done these, will tell you just how enlightening they are, and of course it adds another positive to your outlook on life.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck Jeff.

Thanks Richard, I will certainly look into the course, and go onto the website, I have no problems sharing my story with others, I am 56, so alcohol whether socially until became a problem was and is quite different to today's youngsters drinking shot after shot think the abv is around 25 per cent, this could become more of an epidemic than we could ever think of.

Best wishes Jeff

You are absolutely right about it becoming an epidemic. Kids don't realise the damage they are doing to themselves because no one has told them. Going out at weekends getting stoned out of their heads, rolling around in the streets, throwing up everywhere ... it's just a huge laugh to them. They don't know they could be dead before they are 50. So who is going to educate them? Are they going to listen ? Richard and I have been discussing contacting MP'S as yet they've not replied !

You're doing so well Jeff.... proud of you keep it up x

Hi Jeff, never forget that a journey of a thousand miles always starts with the first step. Ignore the negative person they will only make you doubt your own strength and desire to do the right thing.

Hi Jeff. Your original post just broke me and you can tell by all the comments how much support there is here. I have been a member of this support group for over a year now, but mainly just reading the comments that others write. It’s only in recent weeks that I’ve felt emotionally confident to write a few posts and comments myself to start reaching out to others. So the people on this support group have helped me a lot without even realising it. Ignore anyone who’s negative.

Thanks and Hi,

I personally think these forums where you talk to your peers is far more helpful, consultants have facts and figures, my consultant told me I was doing well my liver was improving, but if your calculated enough you can drink then stop before blood tests that's how I started, but what a waste of everybody's time by doing this, this site is so informative and I'm so pleased you are engaging more, keep it up, I don't understand the different variations that people talk about, I have a decompensated liver? Hmm just avoid alcohol, one of my GPS said on one of my blood tests my liver would get damaged if I didn't stop drinking, even though I have cirrhosis ? does he not look at his computer.

Good luck and best wishes Jeff.
