liver function

Hi

I have recently had two abnormal liver function blood tests and after a visit to my doctor he is sending me for a kidney scan and I also have protein in my urine.

The reason I went to the doctors was due to aching limbs, my arms, legs, knees, back all seems to ache a lot and sometimes wake me up in the night, can this be related to what is happening with my liver/kidneys?

It could be.

Well before i was diagnosed with any Liver problem i was having issues with my joints. Knees, ankles, wrists, elbows, fingers would all swell up and be painful. Used to get little sores on my hands and fingers, lots of mouth ulcers and various lumps and bumps all over the place. I also had protein and blood in urine.

Whether all are related i just don't know. It is quite a strong possibility though. Possibly not the same disease, but possibly all immune system mediated.

It could be quite simply that your abnormal liver and kidney issues could be related to any medication you take to try and help with the rheumatic aches and pains you are having. Anti inflammatory meds usually used to help with joint and rheumatic issues can have a bit of an adverse impact on both.

Alternatively, your general aches, your liver and your kidney issues could all be related to an underlying condition affecting all. Maybe something autoimmune related or vasculitis related. If you have one immune or genetic condition you may be a bit predisposed to others. It could be two or three different but related ones, if that makes sense.

Making a diagnosis could be quite tricky. Hopefully, it'll be something obvious and easily identified. However, do be prepared for it not to be and for it to take some time to get any form of firm diagnosis.

Hi

Hope you get sorted out very soon. You are really going through it aren't you?

I've got Nash which has caused me no end of trouble. I have now been diagnosed with fibromyalgia as well. My consultant said you can have bad joints etc just with Nash but mine has been Madeira's cos of the fibromyalgia!! Happy days!!! Please take care. Lots if love Lynne xxxx

That’s whats worrying me really that it could take a while to diagnose what’s going on and I’m struggling to work tbh due to the aches and pains in my body, I’m self employed and do three different jobs so when I get home I just want to crawl into bed!!

Hi again,

i'm sorry i cant give you much comfort in how long it will take to get a diagnosis. Lets hope they can find some tell tale markers in the investigations they do to identify what it could be.

I very much know what you mean about just wanting to crawl into bed when you get home too. When i was having a bit of a flare there was many a time i just had to have a kip in the car on getting home from work before walking from it to my front door.

Same here. Try to make sure that the doctor takes note of ALL your symptoms, and dont be fobbed off.

Agree with all that Kristian has said. Lots of luck, and wishing you a speedy diagnosis, but try to prepare if you can for not getting quick answers.

I don’t feel that the doctors have time for you these days, I come out feeling disappointed and let down, they don’t understand the words self employed coz if I don’t work I don’t get paid, I can’t go off sick 😥

Even with the more sympathetic doctors theyre not treating is holistically, so everything else we bring is considered irrelevant. Or maybe its how they stay sane, by not engaging?

I feel we need the sort of support that cancer patients have in Macmillan nurses - knowledgeable, sympathetic and the authority to take appropriate action.

Im so sorry you are in this position; its more than enough to be ill without serious financial concerns.

I agree. My consultant has always seemed to find me off, he was more attentive last time I saw him, may have something to do with threatening them with pals!! I've got a liver nurse who is fantastic, maybe you could ask your Dr about seeing a liver nurse. Lack of sleep is a big thing with me, pain wakes me up after an hour's sleep which is leaving me exhausted. Please take care xx

I’ve had a really bad day today very weepy just want to get this sorted coz as of yet I have no diagnosis, Friday morning is SlimmingWorld morning and I’ve been going since July last year and have only lost 12.5lbs, 3.5 of which have gone back on over Xmas, I follow the diet to the letter (except over Xmas) but never have major loses like the others at the club, it leaves me very frustrated as even my SlimmingWorld consultant doesn’t know why it’s not happening for me!!

in reply to rosejane

You've lost nearly a stone which is good but I know what you mean. Have you got ascites which could add to your weight. My consultant said the size of my liver won't help, he couldn't believe it when he examined me!! I get days where I'm very tearful too. Do you get much pain? I know I'm in constant pain cos I've got fibromyalgia too and collapsed arches in my feet!! Hope you get sorted soon. Please take care. Lots of love Lynne xxxx

I really don’t know what is wrong with me yet, I’m going for a scan on Tuesday but I don’t know when I will get the results of that!! I do get pain but it’s the ache in my body that I’m struggling with and it’s all over my body some nights it’s so bad it wakes me up, what with that and getting up to go to the loo I never seem to get a good nights sleep so I feel shattered, that makes me weepy when I’m tired, we do suffer don’t we but compared to some people I’m well off, you take care also xx

in reply to rosejane

Thank you. We have to keep smiling don't we but it's very as well isn't it? As for your results, I had to keep pestering them for mine, my liver nurse has been fantastic, I've only had her since July and she's done more for me than any consultant has!! She will be on a lot less money too!! Thinking of you xxxx
